Very ambiguous information in determining whether my wife needs a transit in Canada. The statement from the Canadian immigration website says this "persons lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence who are in possession of their alien registration card (Green card) or can provide other evidence of permanent residence." Now as we have not yet entered the US, we do not yet have the Green Card. But is the CR-1 visa obtained from the US Consulate permissible under the "other evidence of permanent residence" description? I cannot find any examples of what is permissible as other evidence, PLEASE HELP!

I appreciate the response. I suspected it would be true. Oh well, now have to add an extra 12+ hours in layovers in order to get a ticket home before Thanksgiving.

im not sure, i myself have not gotten a cr1 visa yet but im wondering if my girlfriend can connect flights in canada without a transit visa, were hoping we can bypass getting a transit visa for her by not going thru the usa

If you have a CR-1 visa to the USA, then why would you "avoid" going through the USA?

YMMV
