What does that have to do with Vietnam and WWII? Yes we all remember the whole thing about UN Weapons Inspectors and Saddam shutting them out. But what was said to be there and what Saddam was thought to be hiding were never found, no evidence of WMD's and I'm sure he was on surveillance, hard to sneak WMD's out of the country when people are watchin you. Just my opinion though.

Hey don't get me wrong, I'm glad he Saddam is out of power, I agree his daddy who I hate just as much should have taken care of it in Desert Storm when he had the chance but just rushing into countries and overthrowing governments without someone asking for help is something I dont think the US should be doing.

Here's an unheard of concept...

How about the US minds it own business?

Can you spell V-I-E-T-N-A-M?

The wars in Iraq had a lot to do with US business. This is the first time I've read someone who opposes the war denying that.

Touche'.

Your point?

My point is that the US government was minding it's own business when we first declared war on Iraq. You said "How about the US minds it(s) own business". I thought I would point out that it was.

What does that have to do with Vietnam and WWII?

I.E. Vietnam and Irag = both intrusionary.

WWII hasn't got jack squat to do with it.

Oh, I see, well I'd definitely agree Vietnam and Iraq have much in common I was just lost on what Clintons speech had to do with either war LOL

And there isn't anything similar about WWII and Vietnam OR Iraq

Hey I might be mistaken but weren't we actually CALLED upon to help with WWII like with Bosnia? I don't remember anyone asking us to help in Iraq

In 1990 Kuwait's ambassador to the US did "I think the United States intervention at this stage is of paramount importance," he says.

I quoted Clinton's speech to illustrate the fact that the POTUS felt Iraq was a legitimate threat to the US...and to show that this was the opinion before Bush...and I felt this illustrated why it was not like Vietnam.

I presume you mean business as in economics. And in that case I would agree with you.

Colloquially speaking, I was implying 'affairs'.

Now lets see if the 'impeachment-ites' can have a field day with that double-entendre.

There isn't anything similar about WWII and Vietnam? They are plenty of similarities. We went to Germany to stop the spread of German Facism. We went to Vietnam to stop the spread of communism. Both were ultimately successful for US interests.

As I said I could be mistaken  but how does a request 10 years earlier have any bearing on the war we are currently in? We responded then for the call for help, I don't think it would carry over 10 years until this war.

Well, you weren't specific. But if it wasn't for the first war, we wouldn't have had the second war (at least not on the basis for which we went the second time), so the original request was responsible for all of it.

Not an American thing. I am quite American and never find death humorous.

There isn't anything similar about WWII and Vietnam? They are plenty of similarities. We went to Germany to stop the spread of German Facism. We went to Vietnam to stop the spread of communism. Both were ultimately successful for US interests.

I don't think that my Dad would agree with you, being an ex pilot in the navy and a vietnam veteran. Actually, he'll probably tear you apart for writing such nonsense. The US wasn't successful in Vietnam in any way.

Considering all the pain he had suffered during and after the war, remembering all the losses and the deaths of his friends : "War is ugly, the ugliest is war" he always used to say. Today, Vietnam is still a communist country. There are hectares and hectares still filled with landmines ready to blow off... So what has been achieved?

Sometimes I think I know everything, and I regain consciousness. Seen it all, done it all, forgot most of it....

So much plenitude, yet so much emptiness

The second war is the result of the terms of surrender from the first war being ignored by Saddam.
