do please enlighten us with your thoughts on the issue.

I'll do it for him. Tt's the same old 'We have to look at (or for) the root of the problem. Then analyze whether this person's bloodline had form of injustice over the last 1,000 years. If we find anything, then his decision to rape and leave children for dead is apparently excused.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Mostly when BY posts these sorts of violent crime figures from the UK, it turns out that the violent crimes basically boil down to 90% bar room brawling versus 10% pre meditated criminal activity.

First it's I don't understand the stats or how to interpret them. Now it's the stats by the European Commission mean squat.

Cleo, at least come out and admit it. Any stats you disagree with, are by default wrong.

You seem remarkably certain that the Saudi criminal justice system is trustworthy.

No, but we need to reach equilibrium. We should not rule out techniques just because they do not support our ideological stance. The US has lengthy sentences and they simple don't work. UK and AUS on the other hand have pathetically short sentences and they clearly are an epic fail. Furthermore, do nothing to stop people from re-offending. What does work and did work for thousands of years is punishment that fits the crime.

We are dealing with criminals here, not some well thought out balanced and logical individuals. Corporal punishment, like the cane, is a great way to prevent certain crimes. Humane or not, the stats clearly support this. Singapore is a first world country which uses this system and has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. While anecdotal, most Aussies traveling there know not to even ponder committing crime there. For people to know and think about this, clearly their prevention tactic is working.

I know for a fact that if I was to punch someone out in Australia, I would most likely get a slap on the wrist. Hence why I do not fear doing it. Whereas, I would not be caught dead doing such a thing in Singapore.

Fear of punishment is not what stops people from going around punching people's lights out.  You seem to have a thing for punching people BY.  I think you need therapy, not have your fists chopped off.

Cleo your downfall is that you view the world through your eyes and fail to understand or even realize that many out there do not have the same views to that of your own. I have been around and known numerous criminals. There is no reasoning with them. You guys seem to defend these guys as if they are playing up because they are hungry; which is bullcrap. The only way they will learn is with physical punishment. Hurt them the way they have hurt others. After all, it may very well be the only way their thick skulls get it.

I don't have "a thing", however, those in your mother country clearly do. This appeasement to such behaviour is why it happens again and again in the UK. Whereas, send the worst offenders to a good caning and I guarantee you they will never be physically violent towards others ever again.

Singapore also doesn't have Jury trials from what I understand.

Regardless - corporal punishment is a far cry from applauding a barbaric execution carried out by the dodgy justice system of a corrupt, autocratic country.

Suadi Arabia is one extreme. UK/AUS is the other.

An American holiday in AUS on their honeymoon murdered his wife, while scuba diving and was sentenced for 1 year. Later extended to 1.5 years. One and a half years for bloody murder. He would be looking at 20 years here. Maybe even death for having such an utter disregard of a human life. In Saudi Arabia they would literally fry him alive. What has Australia taught him? nothing. Did he suffer for his action there? definitely not.

It's not about revenge but about justice.

Its only justice if the trial is fair and impartial.

In the case you're talking about the guy was convicted of Manslaughter (not pre-meditated murder). From this at least it doesn't sound as though there was any conclusive evidence for the higher charge and the guy would have probably gotten out on appeal.

This on the other hand...

Your downfall BY is that you have absolutely no idea what I believe as is demonstrated in this post.

Perhaps if you stopped posting about wanting to have fights I might not conclude that you have a 'thing' about fighting?
