Citizenship Interview Questions

Hi All,

I'm having my citizenship interview soon and I'm confused on how to answer some questions. Here is an example:

Question 61: WHY DID THE COLONIALISTS FIGHT THE BRITISH?

Answers: * Because of high taxes (Taxation without representation)

* Because the British army stayed in their houses (Boarding, quartering)

* Because they didn't have self-government

Do I have to give all three answers or it's enough to give one or two of the three responses? (Note that they did not say: "give ONE reason the colonialist fight the British")

Please share with us from your experiences on previous interviews.

Thank you

These are all reasons, but the main answer would be.

"Taxation w/out representation."

Does it tell you anywhere that you can put more than one answer?

Taxation w/out representation would be the biggest reason.

Yes, on some of the questions it is unclear about what they want. Some of the answers are obviously variations on the same answer but others, like the one above, are obviously different. I was prepared to answer with all three of the answers provided in that case and would recommend studying like that.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Hi Abdarach,

In answer to your question, if I were you, this is what I would do (and this is what I would do myself too):

-More likely than not, when they ask for one thing, they only want one thing. Lol..Knowing the USCIS, they are very simple minded and straight-forward like that...two means two...they will only take the first two answers you give them...lol...

However, to be on the safe side, I would memorize/know all of the answers, just in case. That way you have more chances of getting it right and not forgetting what was all of the available answers on the list. Besides, you've memorized two answers already, so what's the harm in learning a few more? So memorize as many as you can from the list, that way you can't be wrong either way, as if you can't remember one answer right away, you can remember another answer, when quickly asked for such...Do you know what I mean there?

Hope this helps. Good luck studying and good luck on your upcoming interview too.

There are citizenship questions that have multiple answers (such as the one you mentioned.) They're all official, correct, and acceptable. You need to give ONLY one correct answer to pass the question. Citizenship Coach advises that for each question you should learn the easiest answer (according to you) first, then come back and learn the harder ones. This will save you time. I used to learn from a citizenship test CD and did some practice tests online. That was how I passed my interview. The USCIS also has some tests you can use, too. Good luck!
