can POE be anywhere or just certain airports?? stupid question but i was just wondering. Hoping to find out more about our VISA tomorrow..paperwork will be in Dublin by noon. sigh....crossing my fingers

Oh and a big congrats to Miss Jess and Tech Moleidy!!!! :D

Any international airport will have CBP facilities, so you would be able to enter there. Basically, any airport to which you can buy a plane ticket from Ireland can be your POE. Good luck, and I hope you get good news on the visa soon.

LOL - thank you!!

Had a bit of the come-down at the weekend unfortunately. My dad, who just turned 80, collapsed at his birthday party. He's OK, thank god (and thank god I volunteer with St. Johns - not that I was able to do much, but it kept me calm in a sea of total panic!!) - but as this is the 8th time it's happened now, it looks like he won't be able to travel to the wedding to give me away :crying:

So now we're on Plan B, which is - get Jason on a plane in August, non-legal (VERY non-legal!!) ceremony in my dad's back garden so he can still walk me down the aisle :) J's plane ticket at that time of year is going to cost a bloody fortune but I want my dad to be involved so the cost doesn't matter....I haven't told him (my dad) my thoughts yet and I know he's going to be really upset cos he hates the idea of getting old and not being able to do as much, so I'm quite strssed out.

But on the upside, I get to see J sooner than October - and it's an excuse to buy another pretty dress ;)

Jess, I'm sorry to hear about your dad, but it's good news that he's okay. And what a fantastic plan B, really. I hope your dad will react positively to the new plan, I think it will be lovely to have a little thing in the back garden at a place that means a lot to you, with people who you love. Not to mention seeing him sooner AND a pretty new dress!!

Your Plan B seems good to me , this way, those who can't attend the "real wedding", will attend the unofficial one  . I wish I could do that, but it will cost us a fortune

No kidding...J's plane ticket to come over for it cost me £730  Stupid bloody August. Thank god I found out I got a raise on Friday. Obviously he is worth it ;) but I can't help seeing it as a good few weeks' worth of unemployment survival...

My dad was agreeable to Plan B but reserved the right to come over in October, but my step-mum has taken my inch and turned it into a mile and is now saying that in her book there is no way he will travel. I'm inclined to agree but I felt absolutely awful trying to tell him what to do which is also basically impossible. Now I'm under massive pressure, cos I know my step-family will be furious with me if he does decide to travel, but I don't want to force my dad to miss his one chance to give his daughter away. Gah. Family politics are exhausting! :help:

OK, rant over

I hear ya. It comes down to the "rights and risks" debate around older people with health concerns. Ultimately, it IS up to him. No one should be furious with you. You haven't done anything. Family politics, yada, yada....

Hallelujah! Now, Miss Jess, apart from the obvious concerns over your dad's health, you have no more worries! It's finally OVER! Enjoy.

arwilson - ditto. The boredom of the wait is the worst of what is in store for you tomorrow.

I have 12 more sleeps till I leave the UK! And what with the World Cup and Big Brother dominating my TV, that's reason enough to go! Talking about family dramas, my step-daughter to be has chosen now to go off the rails on a teenage rampage! Looks like I'll be spending my first few weeks in the States supervising that "you are grounded, lady" thing!

Hey everyone!!

It has been a long time since I've posted - took the recommended break from VJ between K1 and AOS :) Great to see all the cases moving forward and gradually everyone making their way over.

I have gotten married ( :) :) :) ), am just putting together the next batch of paperwork and getting used to life in the US ... boy, you can run into some hilarious misunderstandings as a foreigner, even if you speak the language :)

Best of luck to everyone! Missed you guys!

The funniest thing is when people here don't know you are a foreigner and ask you the simplest questions, and you have no idea :) I walked into a bridal shop and couldn't tell them my dress and shoe size :) Am slowly learning to convert kg-s into lbs, cm-s into inches... but I still don't know my shop sizes... they seem to change every time I try something on.

LOL I know that feeling...all I know is that to convert UK sizes to US you subtract 4...so a UK 10 is a US 6 and so on...and my understanding of farenheit goes like this:

Temp in deg F: Description

0 : Basically dead unless you're a husky

10: Practically dead

20: 10 layers and a convection heater

30: Baltic

40: Chilly

50: Jeans and jumper

60: Jeans and t-shirt

70: British summer

80: Hot

90: Roasting

100: Jump in a vat of ice cubes

It's crude but effective ;)

welcome back KisK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! missed you girly . Hope everything is going great with you and all :star:

Same things happens with me >.< . I try not to talk when we go somewhere, cos I don't want them to misunderstand me. So if someone asks a question or something (at the restaurant, shops ...), I just look at Drue with my puppy eyes and he answers for me lol. I should go get me a shirt "I'm Frenchy, bear with me" and never take it off lol

There's something I'm kinda getting used too, when they say hello here, they are like "Hey, how you doin?" "Fine thank you", and chat about the weather and stuff , like, everywhere, to everyone, even if you don't know them (like restaurants, shops). We don't have that in France >.<, they barely say hello over there lol. I'm still shy, but I'm getting used to that, barely :bonk:

Anweshaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!!! soon you will be here, not so far from me
