And another 2 past the finishing line! Justar and Douglas - don't it feel good! I can feel your radiance from Scotland!

Mrs Megger and Ewan - you two are the new Marie and Pierre Curie, partners in love AND science! Atom splitting fascinating. Did you meet in a lab?

Mr Dog appears to have the cheek of the devil in him tonight. He just told me that he is so excited at the fact that there is now only 26 days left where he has to cook his own dinner and iron his own shirt. He then went on to claim he has booked the local prostitutes motel for our honeymoon. They have recently expanded and you can now rent a trailer for an hour in their car park!

In case any of you fancy this classy joint for your own honeymoon, it's called The H&B Motel, but the cops call it The Hump and Bump. There's romance for ya!

awwwww you had bad luck there cos of your NOA1 delay . But you will get it soon and once you are state side, you will forget how much time it took you to get here and you will feel as you have been here since forever

And another 2 past the finishing line! Justar and Douglas - don't it feel good! I can feel your radiance from Scotland!

 Don't tell him bout the whip you bought especially for when you move

That's great that you can start looking right away! It's going to be a party night around here when Ewan finally gets his EAD. He has a job waiting for him here in the same lab where I work, so we'll be together ALL DAY! In a year, I suppose I won't be as excited about that prospect as I am now...

Mrs. D, congrats on the visa! Close the curtains and have some naughty touching of it, like our dear Anwesha  And I can't WAIT to hear the story of Evelyn's goodbye.

OMG, 24 hours together, :diablo:

We found today my wedding ring :P . Don't have it yet, had to resize it. But will be ready for Friday, wedding on Saturday

2 weeks still to go till your interview and you're gonna get stung on the visa price hike due to the fault of NCV by sending your file to Dublin by mistake. Doesn't that make you mad?

Actually... Not really. In fact i guess i couldn't really care what it costs (just as long as i have the money for it ;)), just as long as i get there.

I agree actually. I was REALLY mad at first, but then realised we've gotten lucky on the financial front in other areas, and that ultimately once I get the big YES it won't matter :)

One week to go til V-day for me.....I keep checking and rechecking my Monica-from-Friends style, excessively organised folder just in case I've forgotten something!!

Exactly. The 'Yes' at the interview is what ultimately matters. Everything else is just a 'hiccup' along the way.

Two weeks for me. I haven't started the physical checking of the folder yet but i run through it in my head.

BTW [everyone]: Is there a 'sticky' list of things that need to be done, people who need to be informed (of whatever... e.g. banks, student loans, 'tax man',...), etc, etc on here?

@ Mrs. D: Awww, that Mr. D is such a keeper, eh?! Bring your own sheets!

We did meet in a lab, actually! We were identifying and cataloging bugs, though, rather than splitting atoms. Less chance of either of us dying from radiation exposure this way, I reckon!

Gosh, I'm still lagging behind here. We're still waiting for packet 4.

Congrats on all the approved visas though!

@ Chrissie: You'll get there, sweetie! You're turn is just around the corner! Good on ya for your patience; it will pay off a hundred fold!

We found today my wedding ring :P . Don't have it yet, had to resize it. But will be ready for Friday, wedding on Saturday

@ Naddy: Woo! Congrats on that! I hope you'll show us a picture!

BTW [everyone]: Is there a 'sticky' list of things that need to be done, people who need to be informed (of whatever... e.g. banks, student loans, 'tax man',...), etc, etc on here?

@ ARWilson: You, too, will be fine! No worries! As for "sticky" list, I don't know of one, but Ewan seems to be having a heckuva time getting his student loan thingies to come here instead of sent to his mum in Oz... Be SURE to come with your birth certificate and a copy of vaccination records. For me, with the bank, I just sent them a little online message thingy when I went to NZ, and that was sufficient for them, it seems. You can wire money to a joint account pretty easily, once you have one.

My family and a few friends from home are coming here to Miami to have a little, casual wedding celebration with us this weekend (before all the oil hits our FL beaches!) which is nice, but a little stressful! I'm baking our "wedding cake" tonight, in preparation for the picnic "reception" on Saturday. Hopefully we can get some nice photos out of it, for posterity's sake

BTW [everyone]: Is there a 'sticky' list of things that need to be done, people who need to be informed (of whatever... e.g. banks, student loans, 'tax man',...), etc, etc on here?

I haven't seen one, but there should be one, and I'm thinking of starting one for the Brits. I did, however, find a very useful emigration checklist when I was looking at foreign exchange brokers for transferring the wedding fund:

http://www.moneycorp.com/pdf/MC0018_Checklist_4pp_A5.pdf

Things I've thought of so far:

  • Student Loan (boooo) - they have a form you fill out once a year and they calculate your repayments based on income. Bad news - threshold is lower in the US. Good news - if they do it once a year my income will be zero so I'll have a year's repayment freeze :D
  • Council Tax
  • Inland Revenue - I think it's a P85, and apparently you can get an income tax refund (hooray!)
  • Banks
  • Royal Mail (if you're getting mail forwarding)
  • Utilities companies - phone, gas, electric, water, etc.
  • Landlord!
  • Doctor/NHS - get a handover file (as a medical war zone I am reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly going to miss the NHS...)
  • Work (obviously!)

Feel free to add!! I know some of these are UK-specific but a lot of them are global...

BTW - and this IS UK specific, lol - did any of you Brits store your stuff at Goulds while you were in the Embassy?

My hostel has luggage storage but I want to take my phone with me 1) for Google Maps and 2) so I can call everyone I know the SECOND I get done :)

It's not a must, I just found it a lot easier to send the one page of tax transcript per year as opposed to ten pages of photocopied forms and support documents. The transcripts are free and come super-fast, and then you don't have to go digging through folders to find tax info from 2007 (I'm definitely not an awesome organizational queen like our dear Miss Jess). But either way is acceptable. My dad (co-sponsor) sent copies of his tax forms/documents from last year, so I guess technically we had both ways in there.

Not having seen your John for 10 months. That is something. Drama? I would have thrown all my toys out my pram ages ago!

Therefore, when you do set eyes on each other - drama? - I expect no less than a full-on Bollywood singing and dancing routine at Charlotte airport, complete with fireworks!
