I believe it's too early to call (as opposed to too close to call, methodologies to be explained by chuck todd later).

Chuck Todd needs to shave that ridiculous goatee. I'm bloody serious. That's what's wrong with this country. Serious journalists who look like fags.

!!! i was just thinking this... how did Chuck Todd even get that job...?

on a side note, and in honor of gloating republicans, i would like to add that i was looking at Sarah Palin on the news today...

yeah, i see it now... she's hot. and how does she stay that way after 5 kids? i may have to take up hunting if it's gonna get me in that kind of shape...

He got the job (NBC Chief White House Correspondent) when David Gregory vacated it to take over as Meet the Press host last year.

Meet The Press was left host-less when Tim Russert suddenly passed away from a heart attack. :((F)

NBC News projects Democrat win in N.Y. vote

The rural, upstate race highlights a split in GOP loyalties

updated 52 minutes ago

ALBANY, N.Y. - Democrat Bill Owens has captured the special election for a New York congressional seat that became a fight over the identity of the Republican Party.

Owens defeated Conservative Doug Hoffman and Republican Dierdre Scozzafava in the heavily Republican 23rd Congressional District in rural northern New York state. Scozzafava abruptly withdrew Saturday and supported Owens.

Hoffman has conceded the race.

How does this translate into a Republican mandate?

It's a mandate for the republicans to take back the GOP from the tea baggers around Sarah Palin. NY23 has handed Sarah Palin who whatever weight she has behind ** Hoffman and has accomplished that which nobody else could have accomplished: give the district that the GOP represented for over a dozen decades to the Democrats.

The tea baggers are the clear losers on 03 November 2009. They haven't won squat and have actually given the Democrats another seat in the House. What a bunch of stoopid fools. The GOP should have listened to Newt. Unlike Palin, he knows how to build majorities. But I hope the tea baggers keep going taking apart the GOP. 2010 will be a walk in the park for the Democrats.

Palin will be president in 2012

She has a real shot. Look at what they did in NY-23. If they can pull that off upstate, all bets are off.

That would be just embarrassing. The barrel was scraped when GWB was elected (twice), they'd have to dig right through it to elect Palin.

This is the Rubio plan, fight on the real conservative issues even if that does mean losing...in the short term ;)

Sarah got her ####### handed to her in NY-23 yesterday. Let's not forget that Hoffman, Baby, Hoffman lost. If she can't turn a rural, solidly GOP district into her tea bagging fold - as she thought she could - then what, other than AJ's fantasies, can she actually turn? She's politically incompetent. Plain and simple.

AJ, some impostor is trying to steal your thread.

But we won't let him, will we?

This is the only genuine real and true "Republican gloating thread", where all gloating shall be done.

As of 9:51EST, here is the scoop on the same-sex ballot initiative in Maine, the only race of real interest in the country tonight:

updated less than 1 minute ago

PORTLAND, Maine - Gay marriage was put to a vote in Maine on Tuesday in a closely watched referendum that gay-rights activists across the country hoped would prove that public opinion is turning in their favor.

Voters had to decide whether to repeal or affirm a state law that would allow gay couples to wed. The law was passed by the Legislature last May but never took effect because of a petition drive by conservatives.

Early returns showed a close contest, as had been forecast. With 70 of 608 precincts reporting, the gay-marriage side had 53 percent to 47 percent for the other side.

Goes to show what you get when only 70 precincts have reported. Gay marriage was defeated by popular vote, just like it has been in every state that had a popular vote on the issue. That's 31 states.

That is a crying shame. It never ceases to amaze me how many people in the US blame homosexuality for societal ills. Giving gay couples legal marital rights as well as obligations is not the problem. Doing so simply rights a current wrong, the ability to legally rely on their partner. Terrible and wrong.

Oops, wrong thread - only gloating allowed. Fabulous, preserving marriage for the real people, that's what we want.

Eventually, America will right this wrong. It's an uphill battle for this minority to get majority support for their rights. Interracial marriages were rejected by the population of many states for way too long. This struggle is not all that different.

Good night for the GOP that should serve as a wakeup call for the Democrats. I haven't followed the story very closely but from what I gather the economy was the #1 issue & the Democratic candidates didn't give voters a warm & fuzzy on this issue.

For years the Republican party was known for party unity (not as true today, with the rift between conservatives & moderates). Likewise the Democrats need to work out the differences between the party moderates & liberals if they want to have success over the next 3 years of Obama's term. The Republicans clearly don't want to compromise with the Democrats because that would lead to success for the Dems, so the Dems only chance at success is a cohesive party that can get the job done without the Republicans.

I have consistently preached cooperation & compromise between the Republicans & Democrats, but clearly that will not happen. If the Dems continue to fail they only have themselves to blame.
