My appointments scheduled for December 9th @ 1pm in Reno, NV.

I might even try doing mine tomorrow. I know that somebody on here did a walk-in in Austin, so it's worth the risk. The annoying thing is that the ASC is about eighteen miles away, which, if you're also broke and carless, is a huge pain in the ####### to get to. I've also read that you're not allowed to bring cellphones into the building which, given that I don't have a car to put it in, means I have to leave mine at home. I'm so used to my iPhone, I will be lost without it! :-(

Good Luck! Sounds like perfect timing - day before your wisdom teeth surgery... Plus awesome you know they take walk ins  sure it will all go really well today :star:

Hello guys.

Been lurking in this board a lot, decided to post (finally).

Kind of makes me feel better I am not the only one in this boat...

Hey Mestis! Congrats on filing!

So I'm so jealous that you lot have your Biometrics appointments already! I'm still waiting for the fee checks to clear or if the whole package will be sent back, lol !!!

Just thinking I will definetely do a walk in as soon as I get that Biometrics appointment letter and if anyone else will do the same, I've already found the service center close te me that allow walk-ins, haha... I'm so anxious to start working when this semester ends and wondering if doing a walk in Biometrics will kinda speed things up a little towards getting the EAD card in hand... are you gonna do a walk-in Marie?

Hey Shani, I'm sure all your stuff will arrive soon :star: I want to do a walk in so bad! lol! But unfortunately more waiting for a week or so... My ASC is about 45 mins - an hour away... I don't have a car yet, and my husband is crazy busy at work, plus thanksgiving this week - so figuring the ASC will be closed at least 1 day. So probably will try middle of next week if my hubby gets time out of work. My ASC says online it doesn't accept walk ins, but I think they all say that online, unfortunately I've not heard of anyone on here doing a walk in at my ASC  but hopefully I can try my luck! :star:

Marie, congratulations!!!EAD is coming soon, you'll see!!!!

Thank you Juliava! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and hope you get good news on your case soon :star:

No idea on how long it takes to get the ead, but I have heard of some people doing walk ins and then getting their ead before their original biometrics apt... So i'm sure you won't be waiting long...

I wish I knew if I could do a walk-in appointment...

I'm working about 1 hour from where I live, and from the USCIS office where I need to go for my biometrics. I can't risk to go there, miss work and get there for nothing :crying: But then I am lucky I do not need a EAD to work.

But then, considering that this week in holiday, and next week I will be in training, I guess it is not that bad...

I totally hear you, I wish I knew if my ASC took walk ins too. It sucks some will and others won't.

You're lucky you can still work, my work visa just expired :crying:

We're going to combine the trip with changing my name at Soc Security so hopefully it's not a totally wasted trip. But I do feel bad my husband taking time of work for a maybe. But at the same time the faster we get the EAD the faster I can get a job... and we will be less broke.. Except I was looking online today and there are hardly any job vacancies... Grrr Still at least once I try I can post on here and anyone in the future with the same ASC will know if they can try a walk in...

Yes, Marie, it does feel good to get this next step out of the way - although I'm annoyed that I'm going to look like a dog's ####### on my EAD and green card picture! I'm very vain, so was deliberating whether to wait and get my hair cut before going (it so badly needs a cut!), but, ach, I decided to push my vanity aside and just get it out of the way.

Mestis and Marie, is there really no way of finding out if your ASC does walk-ins? Maybe you could both post a thread on here asking? I was lucky enough to see the timeline of somebody in the same city as me who had done a walk-in, so I at least knew it could be done. I was, nonetheless, quite nervous about today, as I thought it would be just my luck to get turned down.

Awww I know my picture will look terrible too - they always do when it's for something important huh!

You're right I should post a thread. i was google searching earlier and found 2 VJ members with Reno as their local office, I pmed them... They must have been like who is this girl? lol! But worth a try... I feel like chances are mine won't, I feel like I am waiting for everything at the moment, need to be more patient! Though my hubbys talking about taking me sooner now than next week... i'll keep you guys posted! :star:

That was good advice.

I did a search on the board for my ASC, and someone that went in August said they do not take walk-ins, and they have been told that even if no one was waiting, they had to come back on their schedule date.

I think that solved the dilemma

One question please guys, so I can see from our bank account the checks cleared, and I can see the back of the check, and each check has 2 different receipt numbers starting with MSC, exactly the same except the last number is different. This is the number I use to check my case status online on the USCIS website:https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard/CaseStatus.do

right? so which of these two numbers do we use? And how soon after getting these receipt numbers were you guys able to check your case statusses online?

Hey Shani, Congrats on the checks clearing. When mine cleared I tried to see them online but the bank said the check images weren't available, - so I had to wait for the NOA's. Once I had the NOA's we had 4 tracking numbers. Mine worked right away but i heard they don't always. I would assume the number on the back of the $1010 check is your I-485 case number and the other the I-130... I'd probably check both...

Thanks marie! yup, we have the numbers on the back of the checks but they don't work yet, so we'll patiently ( I mean very impatiently) wait for the NOA's... lol

I see our timelines so far are the same regarding on which days the checks cleared etc. so I'll be looking up to your timeline like a big sister ;-)... yours seem to be going really quick except for the bio letter being delayed in the mail for some reason... I'm hoping mine will go just as quick, and I'm silently routing for you to do a walk-in biometrics app.. lol

Awww hoping you get your NOA's soon too - I think that wait is the worst!

So you guys this morning my hubby took me to the ASC to attempt to do a walk in biometrics. The IO was very polite and told me that they will not take anyone early and I have to wait until my scheduled date... :crying: Grrr just like Mestis' ASC - totally gutted as i'm figuring now with the holidays and all it will likely be January before I can be working again.

Then after my failed biometrics we went to the SSA to try and change my name... as the DMV won't change my license name until it's changed at soc sec, plus a lot of companies round here e-verify (requiring my EAD to match my Soc) so I didn't want another delay once I get my EAD. I'd posted a thread on another board about changing name at SSA and others had been able to change their names at the SSA with just a marriage cert, regardless of if visa had expired etc... Well I wasn't lucky there either as the minute they saw alien on the form they asked for a green card... I explained the whole AOS and they told me to come back when I have my EAD or green card...

Such a wasted trip but my hubby was like at least we know where all these places are now for next time...

Sorry to complain you guys! Really hope anyone else trying walk in biometrics have more luck than me!
