Congratulations on having a successful interview, Marie! And a very happy belated birthday, too! My husband's birthday is actually tomorrow, my mother's is the day after, and my gran's was last week. So many aquarians in my life!

My interview is next Tuesday, so not long to go now.

I passed the written part of my driving test a couple of weeks ago, so now I'm taking driving lessons. I had my first one on Monday afternoon. I passed my test in Scotland fifteen years ago, but I can't even remember the last time I drove a car, so I'm pretty rusty to say the least. Nonetheless it did all come back to me after about half an hour, and I couldn't have been all that bad because the instructor took me out on a busy multi-lane road. Hopefully I'll pass the stupid test first time. I'd bloody better, as the driving lessons are $400 for 6 hours of instruction! :-(

I'm also just about to start work as a substitute teacher in a neighbouring school district. I'm getting pretty nervous about finding a real teaching job this school year, as there were so many certified teachers at the orientation today who said they've had to resort to subbing because they can't find a proper job as a teacher. Very depressing.

Well, that's all for now. I'll come back on next week to let you know how the interview went.

Congratulations to everyone who's had an interview/received their green card. And good luck to all of you who are still waiting for news.

Thank you! Just got the welcome letter & I-130 approval in the mail today. The I-130 still shows online as pending - gotta love the online updates! But yay to receiving the approvals in the mail... green card next

Congrats Dirtyweebesom for passing your written test and getting taken on as a substitute teacher. That's awesome. Good luck with the job search for a real teaching job. I sympathise over the job search frustration my job is seasonal and ends in April and i've started looking for a year round job... Wow there is so little out there. Not a good time to try and start a career. But hopefully things will pick up soon.

Hope your husband has a lovely Birthday tomorrow & all your other family members with upcoming birthdays! :star:

Best of luck for your interview next week, I have my fingers crossed for you that you get a fast approval as wow - you sure have been waiting!

Hello, everybody! This is just a quickie post, as I got up super early (about 5:00 a.m!) to drive through to San Antonio with my husband for my interview at 9:00 a.m., and I'm exhausted. Disorganized and neurotic as usual, we were up until about 3:00 a.m. sticking photos in albums, and attending to the last minute details of our supporting documentation.

I'll come back tomorrow to fill you in with all the juicy details, but suffice it to say that I got approved! Yay! I've got the cool little F-551 stamp in my passport. Can't wait to get the actual green card in the mail.

Speaking of green cards, congratulations on getting yours today, Marie! I'm so happy for you - and for me! It's great to know that we're done with USCIS for a year and nine months.

I've got my driving test next Tuesday (yikes!), so I'll be ecstatic if I pass that, too.

May I appeal to the infinite wisdom of Marie or Shani (or anybody else for that matter) and ask a question about driving licences actually? When I got my driving permit in the mail, I was horrified to see that it was (a) vertically oriented, not horizontally like a regular licence and (b) had "Temporary Visitor" emblazoned across it in big red letters. When I get the real licence will it still have that across it, or once I get my green card will I have a regular-looking licence like everybody else?

If I do get a regular licence now, will I be able to get it with just the F-551 stamp in my passport or will I have to wait to get the green card in the mail? It's unlikely I'll have the green card in hand by the time I sit my test next Tuesday, and I'm really hoping the F-551 stamp will be enough to get the regular licence, as I don't want to make another bloody trip to the Department of Public Safety to get a new one. Sigh.

Thanks, Laura and Kyle! There aren't too many dirty details although the immigration officer did tell me about how his father killed goats, and that they make a terrible noise as they're dying!? (I'm pretty chatty, so we covered a lot of completely non-immigration related topics! Ha ha!)

 Got my white "green" card in the mail today - we're so happy! It feels wonderful to be done for 1 year & 9 months!

Fingers crossed for everyone with upcoming interviews/still waiting, hoping that you don't have to wait too much longer.

Got mine too yesterday!!! Our timeline were really like carbon copy or something :-P Congratz on being done! Woo!

Sigh.

Congratz on your approval!!! As for the driver license, I guess it is a state thing... I got driver license with my TN in Both Florida and Illinois, and never got that temporary visitor thing on it. I did have a "temporary" 1 year license when I went to renew my license with less than a month left on my TN (Was renewing by mail...) . So it seems to be different from state to state. Hopefully, they will accept the F-551 Stamp, and maybe you'll also have your "welcome letter" with you just in case they don't know what a F-551 stands for...

That's awesome, Congrats!
