I got my visa today! Have my flight ticket to travel on December 14th, and God, I can't wait to see my sweetheart again!

My question is, what happens when I get to USA? I understand that I have to apply for my social security number when I get there. Is that the same as the Green Card? And does the Social Security Number take long to be given? Any ideas?

SSN is not a green card, it is your social security number. Green Card is completely different. The SSN can take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Congrats :)

Social Security Card is the document that is like your social insurance (for retirement) and that lets you work and pay taxes and gain retirement.

Green card is the document that makes you permanent US resident and also lets you work + other benefits.

It takes different for every member to get them in the mail. It depends on where you reside in US. For example, it's been 2 months since I entered US and still no SSC, and I got the GC in mail in a month after entering US.

Also, please take the time to fill in your VJ timeline :time:

Good luck in your journey

My husband got his SS card a few weeks after arriving. He did not have to apply or go to the social security office to get it. He has been here for 3 months and just received a letter saying that his green card will arrive in the next 30 days.

Congratulations!

What you definitely need to do is getting a SSN and a DL or state ID, in my opinion.

Thank you guys so much!

Chris & Ani, I'm sorry I haven't filled out my timeline properly. It's for the simple reason that we don't remember the exact dates. That's why I have just put the dates that we do remember on my siggy!

I cant' thank VJ members enough for answering all my questions and helping us in this thing. And for sure I plan to hang around so hopefully I can help someone in the way you all helped me!
