Here is Montreal's auto response which arrived seconds after I sent the email

I removed all the other answers to shorten my post, I hope they respond personally

Thank you for your inquiry. After analyzing the large number of incoming emails (we average more than 1,000 every month), we are providing this automatic response to answer the most frequently asked questions. If this response does not answer your question, please be patient for a specific response, hopefully within 4 to 5 business days If your question can be answered by the list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) below, our office will consider that your question has been satisfactorily answered.

Frequently Asked Questions: Table of Contents

1. I have sent multiple inquiries, but have not gotten a response. Why?

2. Where can I get more information about Immigrant Visas and the NVC?

3. When will I get an appointment?

4. If I cancel my appointment when will I be rescheduled?

5. Where will the interview take place?

6. What photos do I need to bring?

7. What documents do I need to bring?

8. How do I add a family member to my case?

9. Does the petitioner need to come to the interview?

10. Who must attend the interview? Do I need to bring all my children?

11. Can I pick up the visa the same day?

12. Do I owe any money for the visas?

13. How do I book my Medical Exam?

14. How do I check the status of my waiver?

15. How do I check my priority date?

Q11: Can I pick up the visa the same day?

A: Because of the administrative processing associated with visa issuance, it is extremely difficult to issue visas on the same day of the interview. Instead, most visas, along with the necessary supporting documents, are mailed back to applicants within one week of visa approval, using the 12" x 15" Canada Post Xpresspost envelope supplied by the visa applicant. These envelopes must be mailed to a Canadian address. If you are already a lawful resident of the United States (on a valid work visa, for example), the visa can be picked up the next business day, at noon.

Thank you,

IV Unit Montréal

Eklondon - dont lose hope! I partly think that they will try to get the visas out as fast as possible -- I dont know if you fill out the DS156 where they ask you when you will leave for the US -- perhaps putting the date will tell them when you need it! Of course I dont think anyone can really count on when they are mailed out, as anything can happen. Also, the consul who interviewed KnJ said 7-10 business days. But if you get it 2-3 business days, your family can still join you for the holidays! The fight is not over until its over, man :P

Finally married... and still married... ;)

It really won't hurt to ask again the day of your interview and see if you can pick them up. There are a few people who have been told no in an email and then yes at the actual interview itself.

Sent package to VSC - 8/12/11

I wouldn't worry about that response, I can't see them agreeing to it in an email - as there is no guarantee that you will get the visa on the day - that would be tantamount to saying the interview is just a cake walk.

As everyone else has said, asking on the day surely can't hurt :)

Good luck!
