I guess I don't see why they have to take a peek at anything when our passports (using information from our birth certificates) would say what gender we are.

Not that it's the end of the world, really, but I just don't see the need.

And I don't think it's right that they feel they can treat patients like ####### simply because we aren't their normal office patients. We have no choice, and they're making money off of that. How would it hurt them to make the experience just a tiny bit less unpleasant?

I haven't a clue. They make far more money off the immigration medical than OHIP pays per patient, so you would think that they'd be nicer. When Medisys did it for Mom and Pop, they were rude as Hell, so my brother pulled out his business card and suddenly it was all smiles and "yes, doctor"and "no doctor." Our family doctor has had more than a few of his patient who needed US Immigration medicals go to Dr. Seiden's and they were all treated in the same manner, with contempt. That's just not right.

K... y'all are making me worry now. Stop it! LOL

Rhiann, I wanted to ask, I know your dad drove you up there, but how was it? Easy to find the area? Any road blocks or construction? The hotel I'm at is really close by, so I just want to know what I'm in for, since I won't be getting there until after dark tomorrow evening :( I'm more worried about that than the exam it self... haha

True, but a bit of civility is not too much to ask for, is it?

Advice on the mean lady (who was really sweet to me...maybe its just cuz I have taken a million chest xrays) is to make sure like Rhiann said, put your stuff on the chair, gown open to the back stand in front of the board when she says and lean into it..then she will help guide your arms but the best way I can describe the position you need to be in is the wierd half hunched position some of the models in the bridal magazines are? with your shoulders kind of forward and tilted down, hands on your hips, and DONT MOVE. If you move, she gets upset cuz she has to reposition you. She was really nice when I was there, said I made it so easy on her and that most people move when she gets them to the right spot. I think shes a bit stressed because she has to crank out the xray's so fast (the dr. will have actually already had a preliminary peek before you get to see the dr.)

main_model.jpg

See the chicks left arm, the one on her hip, how her shoulder is? The lady will try to get you as close to this position as she can, with your hands on your hips.

Originally I was going to drive up with my folks and stay the night before to avoid a four hour drive in the morning (as my dad was crouchy at the thought).

Today he came to me and told me he thought it'd be a waste of money for us to spend the night before, why didn't I think of us just driving up that night?

Oi.

So we're getting up really, really early and driving to Toronto. Yay!

Mean lady is going to hate me. :) Maybe I'll offer her one of the eight million coffees I'll have had by that time.

Also, I was confused for a second there... saw the dress and wondered what thread I fell into. Haha.

lol I totally didnt even look at the dress, just her arm positioning. I only thought of it because Ive seen so many models in that awkward pose in the bridal mags that I was like...seriously...who the hell stands like that in their wedding gown?? But it is how to stand for the xray

Dude, if I was going up with someone else driving I'd totally just go up the morning of. I'm going by myself though, and don't want to get up that early and have to drive then sustain the horror of the waiting room. lol Then again, my drive is nearly 2 hours less than yours even. yikes.

Just a comment about the "mean lady"...whether you're at a medical or not, don't be putting up with this behaviour. I know that we're very reluctant to be assertive with people who we feel have our "life in their hands", due to this whole immigration process, but really...this office just doesn't handle visa applicants. It's quite possible that this lady is just as abusive to other patients in the office, and should really be called on it. If people are uncomfortable with saying something directly to the person, after their medical, they should be writing a letter to the clinic describing what happened, and how they felt about what happened. Just my opinion.

Glad you have that out of the way Rhiann!

My city driving experience is next to nil (in Canada, at least, haha), so I wouldn't be comfortable driving up there myself, and I knew my parents wouldn't either, so they offered to drive. (The fact that I tend to faint after giving blood is probably another good reason why I won't be driving home.) The only reason we were even thinking of spending the night was because my dad complained about how early it was... For me, I'd be up no earlier than I usually am when I'm flying down to Florida, so it's no sweat, heh.

Bring on the coffee!

And I do agree with you Carla... I think at the same time, we all expect rudeness throughout this process for whatever reason. With it often being such a hassle simply to get through each stage, we just sigh a breath of relief that it's over and move onto the next.

But you're right, that woman is likely just that way - not merely for the immigration patients - and that isn't right. I know that I myself am fearfully hesitant when it comes to anything doctor-related, and when someone at the office/hospital/etc has a chip on their shoulder, it only makes it that much harder to bear.
