Interview , Jan 26th, 2010 K-1/K-2

Bloomington, MN

We were called in by a gentleman only a few minutes late for our first appointment.

He said, "sit where you want".

Then my wife and daughter were sworn in.

He checked my wife and daughter’s passports.

He asked my wife:

Where do you live?

Parents names?

Your married name?

How many children do you have?

What are the children’s names?

When were the children born?

What is your home phone number?

Then he switched to variations of questions on the I-485:

Have you ever been arrested?

Have you ever been in jail?

Have you ever been a US citizen before?

Have you ever been deported?

Then back to personal questions:

He then asked, “do you or your daughter have SS numbers?” My wife does, but our daughter does not yet. She is only ten years old, but we do have an individual tax identification number, ITIN, for her. I asked if he wanted the paperwork for our daughter and he said “no, it is not necessary”.

Then he asked my wife if her daughter spoke English. We both said yes at the same time and I commented, “probably better than I do”. He then asked our daughter her name and her birthday.

He then said “I am going to approve both of these”. You should get a welcome letter in four weeks and a green card in six weeks. I asked if he needed anything else and he said “no”. No paperwork, no pictures, no financials … simply nothing was asked for except my wife and daughter’s passports initially. About 20 minutes for the whole interview.

He asked if we had any questions and then my wife and I asked about the 10 year card. He printed off some of the necessary paperwork and we thanked him and we left. He was very pleasant and professional.

Even though we signed up for e-mail notices, we have yet to receive any update on our status, except the initial e-mail saying we are signed up to receive e-mails!

We are of course relieved this part is over and we wish all of you good luck on your interviews and green card adventures. For those who have received green cards all ready a Big Congratulations!

Happy to report that as a November (15th) filer we were approved for our AOS package (Jan 27th) with no RFE's and no interview! We just received a USCIS Email that said "welcome new resident. Permanent resident card production has been ordered."

I was a bit worried since I have seen many November filers who received RFE's (or lack of) for the I-693. We did a I-693 with Dr. Arnold of Texas (since retired). I and am now breathing easier.

Through out this process we received NO RFE's or delays on our part. I attribute this to ALL OF YOU ON VJ. I could not have done this with out the advice, guidance or recommendations from members present or past. Thanks to all of you. I will give back the same advice when I can and offer other recommendations from my experiences from the initial 129F (In my case) to AOS and EAD.

OK, my first bit of advice?...................GET A SSN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (K1's).

Yes the whole process is a pain. It will make you loose sleep at night. Your doctor will have to increase your blood pressure meds (LOL). Your bank account will suffer. The process will demonstrate the convoluted bureaucracy and red tape that the USCIS operates under. BUT SHE IS WORTH IT (my wife).

Thanks again to all of you and God speed on your journey.

I am sure it will for you. The online system at USCIS still shows that our AP is under "initial review" although we received it in the beginning of January. We received our EAD a few days later. Congratulations and keep the faith - you will get the EAD any day now!!
