her 19 YEAR old husband should be shot

No... takes 2 to tango. I just think that child should be placed in the care of competent adults. and a 12 year supply of birth control gifted to this lovely couple

The Roma are known to marry young...and there has been controversy over the fact that they have engaged in arranged child marriages. The Roma has been misunderstood, exploited and persecuted in Europe since the time of their arrival to the continent. IMO, one of the major mistakes the gadjo make in their association w/ the roma is expecting them to assimilate into the mainstream society....but they just refuse to do so. Given their long history of of mistreatment at the hands of Europe, I'm not surprised.

"But to manipulate men, to propel them toward goals which you – the social reformers – see, but they may not, is to deny their human essence, to treat them as objects without wills of their own, and therefore to degrade them." -Isaiah Berlin

Refusing to assimilate one thing, allowing young girls to be exploited in the name of cultural identity is another. These are not easy problems to overcome however.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Well, the gypsies are really screwed up. It's a horrible culture that really is just a cesspool of problems. Having seen it firsthand, this sort of thing doesn't surprise me.

You can make such an equivocal statement based on your vast studies in the social sciences...especially as they pertain to cultural and ethnic identity? <_<

I realize my statement is a little overdone. I met some gypsies that were pretty nice. That was because they had moved away from gypsy culture and tried to become more Western Judeo-Christian.

I agree that trying to change a person from one culture to another has huge implications and baggage. However, not all cultures are created equal. Some of them think that 19 year-olds impregnating 11-year olds is okay. Either you acknowledge that is normal or you acknowledge that the culture is screwed up.

That doesn't mean there is nothing good in the culture. There almost certainly is. So in the gypsy culture, you try to eliminate the incest, child rape, theft, fraud, prostitution, scamming, assault, murder, and general filth, but you can keep the emphasis on family loyalty.

that's just wrong

I am off topic, but Nessa I just wanted to say that your little boy is SO cute!

And I do think that giving birth at 11 y/o is wrong, it is a shame that still today a lot of kids, dont get an education and dont get the change to be kids, and grow up to have changes for their adult life.

On the other hand, I am also really surprised that she was able to get pregnant, and that she survived to labor!

That's a very sad story

Why is a 10 yr old sexually attractive to an 18 year old?

Perhaps the 'husband' is a dim-wit, a slow-brain, a 'tardo ????

Anyway - her Gypsy father will step in, eventually - the new husband will be be 'acclimated' into the family , by the end of this year, you betcha.

otherwise, geez - this is a f'ing gross story, regardless of gypsies, Bulgaria, and the playground..

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
