I just got back from BKK and sorry I missed it.

Looks great; one of my favorite movies was the one titled "Chocolat" by Lasse Hallstrom set in France.

This one has nothing to do with that; it's a combination of Muay THai meets autism

which seems interesting.

I have not seen it, it looks messed up, but also interesting at the same time/. I will have to get her brother to download it for me

I don't usually expect much from Thai films, but have occasionally been pleasantly surprised.

I'm hoping this one will be one of those.

I've seen a lot of Chinese, Japanese, Taiwan films as well as some from Iran, Eastern Europe,

etc. which the general public has virtually no access to or interest in. This one seems to have

some of the typical Muay Thai elements but the primary theme (a female with autism) seems very intriguing.

I saw a Thai movie with English subtitles when I was there in September that was dramatic (other ones I've seen in the past were juvenile, fart joke type comedy hehe). I can't remember the name now but it was about this older guy who was a mime/wanna-be director and this young model girl. They got together but each one was the other's dream or something and the old guy had devoted his money to the girl's upbringing in the past because he loved her mother or something.... acting was good IMHO but the story was just bizarre.

I thought maybe it was a Thai thing I just didn't get but my fiancee's first words after we left were "that not make any sense" ;) Hor Taew Taek Haek Krajerng looked funny in a low-brow way but wasn't out yet at the time.

We saw District 9 too, that was pretty good.

Here are some thai films you might want to check out:

Hom Rong (The Overture) is one of my favorite Thai films. The story takes place between the turn of the century and World War II and revolves around the life of a famous Thai xylophonist. An exceptionally made film.

Faen Chun (My girlfriend) is a cute Thai movie about childhood innocence. Not in the same league as the previous film, but entertaining.

Suriyothai is an historic epic between the Thai and their evil neighbors, the Burmese. A bit long, but it is very well made and gives a glimpse into ancient Siam.

Along the same lines is NareSuan Parts I & II, which deal with another Thai king. I have yet to see the second part. However, both were filmed by the same director as Suriyothai and if you liked it, you'd probably like these.

Mah Nakhon (Citizen Dog) has been called a Thai Amalie. Though it is not in the same league, there are some similarities. Parts of this film were not to my liking at all, yet overall it maintained a certain charm and in some sense was more about Bangkok itself than the characters. Since I spent 4 years living in Bangkok, I felt a connection to it.

Jod Mai Rok (The Letter) is, I believe, a remake of a Korean film that has been adapted to Thai taste. The story of a Bangkok girl who falls for a Chiang Mai country boy is quite sappy. My wife cried so much during this one that her eyes were swollen the next day.

Yum Yasothorn is a comedy by Mum who is a famous Thai comedian. He's been in Ong Bak (Thai kickboxing film) as well another one called The Bodyguard. This film, Yasothorn, is quite campy and a throwback to the 1970's. Entirely in Issan dialect, it's subtitled in Thai.

Most Thai films don't amuse me. All the Horror movies seem to have the same story line, with bloody ghost and poor effects. They try to hard to copy Japanese or Korean Horror movies and they fail at it. They try to use to much computer effects and fail to hide it. The comedy's are all the same also. You can always find the same slapstick actors in there, like the fat little kid or the bald guy that you see in most thai movies like ong bak and I think he was in Tom Yum Kung also. Most comedy always have the one katoi guy in there, so annoying. I absolutely hate when they combine the slapstick comedy with horror... I already hate the stupid parody scary movies in the US, Thai parody movies just take it to a whole nother level. Seems like Thailand film industry pride themselves on the one Tony Ja movie so they try to make movies about muay thai over and over again with poorer actors and story line. I think the one Thai movie that I enjoyed was King Naresuan, I guess cause it was well funded and they took their time in making it.

as mentioned above i saw the full 5 hour version of the legend of suriyothai and loved it, definitely and epic piece with high production. it didn't feel long to me but that might be a result of growing up watching chinese serial dramas. i still watch them ;) been known to sit and watch 12 episodes in a sitting!

I've seen a few of your choices & also "Beautiful Boxer" which was an international hit.

The NYC & Westchester libraries have a few Thai movies, but nothing to compare with their selection of Japanese, Chinese & Korean which I've seen a lot of.

If you go to your local library (if you're in or near a big city) you may find a few Thai films but don't hold your breath.

I don't have a Netflix account because the library usually has something that catches my interest.

I usually look for foreign films that have won some kind of festival award.

One time I picked up a movie about an East German family at the fall of the Berlin Wall.

One of the "inside jokes" was that they were told by the local authorities that Coca-Cola was invented in East Germany,

before they had any contact with the West...

It seemed interesting when I stumbled on it on the internet.

It's definitely (Chocolate) high on my list now.

My mom (84) is going through some rough times & I have to go back to work tomorrow,

so that will be on my "to do" list in the future.
