Hi Everyone,

I generally don't get much on VJ but I need some expertise and help from ya'll. My wife's I-130 and I-129 have been approved and NVC has sent the information to the U.S Consulate in Delhi on 10/01/2009. We called U.S. Consulate in Delhi and got confirmation that they have received the docs and mailed her necessary stuff to proceed further, however, she hasn't received anything yet. We called em' again and was told to follow the link, which apparently kindda got us even more confused. Here are some of the dilemmas I have and I am hoping anyone, who has gone through this process, can help us out.

1- They say we should obtain the documents from the checklist and check the box before each item and return it asap....we don't see any checklist....it kind of gives description of what is needed but no checklist. Follow this link to see: http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/ivpacket309k3.html

2- Police Report: Indian citizens residing in India for six months or more since turning 16 years of age must present Indian police clearance certificates from both their district police station and the local area passport office. Applicants whose passports were issued within six months of the visa interview may present just the passport office certificate. These certificates are valid for one year from the date of issuance......I am just wondering if we need both or just one?

3- Affidavit of Support: They ask for I-134.....does it have to be notarized? Can we submit I-864 instead?

4- How long does it generally take to get an interview date once we submit DS.230 part 1?

Thank you in advance :)

Sorry no one answered your questions. I would have sooner if I'd have saw it.

The above link you posted 'is' the check list. The hard copy that you will or should receive from the Embassy in both Packet 3 and packet 4 have the this same list attached with little boxes for you to check off as you attain the required docs.

Once you submit the Applicants Statement and DS-230 generally it should be about two weeks before you get your packet 4 with your Interview Letter. If you submit them in person, then you may be able to get the packet 4 with your interview date there and then. It's definately worth a try if you live close to Delhi.

As for the I-134, for K3 you should only need to fill this out for the K3. Then you'll need the I-864 when you're ready to file the AOS after your spouse has arrived.

By the way, Welcome to Visa Journey! :)

Hi,

Thanks for your reply...truly. It was a great help to understand the process and get my head around it. I guess i better stay in touch with you since you have gone through this process already --- that is if you don't mind.

Could you please share your experiences of getting Police Certificate from Local Passport Office and Medical Exams -- cost per se, and what kind of shots they generally require you to get.

Looking at your timeline, i am also wondering as to why they had to send your case to USCIS for further review after you sent your packet 4

Once again, i truly appreciate your help and input in this matter :)

Sean.

Sean.

So sorry it took so long to respond...these threads tend to get lost after a day or so and I forget about them.

The local police certifcate was easy for my fiance because all he had to do was just request it and it was done. For another India member they had to supply a copy of the 'Cover Letter' from the Embassy that is attached to packet 3 before the police would do it for them. If your passpoet was issued longer than 6 months agao, you should get started on the Passport Office PCC now. Don't wait as it can sometimes take long to get it completed.

Our case was sent back 'after' my fiance's first interview in Aug. '08'. First we were placed on Administrative Processing or AP, then afterwards they sent it back to USCIS for further review. It was due to us not being cautiously prepared as we should have been for worst case scenario, i.e., documentation required in our 221(g).

The medical exam is not difficult and as a matter of fact probably the easiest to do. The costs on the other hand can end up being expensive depending on what shots or immunizations we will need.
