Not taking my passport at the end of the interview

Hey. I took the interview at the embassy and I thought it went really good. I answered all the questions honestly and everything but at the end of the interview, they returned my passport, told me they have all the information they need and that they'll notify me about the decision as soon as it's made. Should I take the returning of my passport as a bad sign?! If not, what does it mean? Because I have friends who applied before whose passports weren't returned to them until the decision was made...

Ya, time for 'additional processing' - usually it means the namecheck is not complete.

Expect a phone call or a letter back to you, with further information on when to come in (or a bad decision ).

Thanks for replying Darnell. Do you mind elaborating more on the matter? Is it usually a bad sign to give the passport back? And what's a name check?
