Have you thought of delaying moving back to the U.S. and just file a DCF? It's a lot faster, although you have to have had permanent residence abroad for at least 6 months. Here's a link to some info on it:

DCF would be a good option, and I've lived in the UAE for nearly two years. The problem is that while I have gotten to know his entire extended family extremely well during my time here, my fiance has met my mother and sister who visited but not my father. My mother is really the deciding factor and she supports us, but I would like him to know my father better. Going the K-1 route and marrying in the US would go a long way toward making my dad comfortable with things. The other problem is that the UAE government does not regularly grant permission for UAE citizens to marry foreigners, even though it is technically allowed... something to do with demographic issues and the "threat to national identity". So marrying in the US is a better option, as if we ever moved back to the UAE, they would recognize the marriage.

Will definitely explore co-sponsor arrangement, though my parents can't sponsor just now for various reasons.

Think I will prep documents and gather materials now, and then file once I'm back in the states. Mailing things from the UAE to the US is not terribly reliable even when using UPS or FedEx (1 package 20 days late, 1 lost never to be found).

Again, thanks for all of the advice, and will hope to return once I've filed!
