After Oath

My husband passed his interview on Wednesday. He goes back to Memphis for the Oath ceremony on Nov 12 or 13. After he gets his passport, is there anything else we need to do? Notify Social Security?

Since he will be a citizen, do we have to report a change in address should we move in the future or are we completely done with USCIS? Thanks!

His employer and SS are good to report his change of status to, no law that says you have to vote or get a US passport. Everybody pays FICA taxes, comes off the top of your gross pay, might as well get some benefits from it.

Since my step daughter turned 18 years of age three months before we could apply for my wife's USC, as her I-864 sponsor, still have to report to the USCIS any change of address. But since she was unmarried and under 21, only I could petition for her. Probably why I am still here, not yet free from the USCIS. Wife did petition for her over 21 unmarried son, so she is not free either, but she was until she petitioned.

If either you or your husband haven't petitioned for anyone else, you should be free. I did ask why they considered a person to be a minor under 21 for petitioning, but an adult if they are over 18 for USC. Was told it is the law. Who made this law and why? I don't know, it's the law.

Have to remind my step daughter, she is old enough to serve her country, but too young to drink a beer. But if she does drink a beer, is considered a minor, but will be treated as an adult in a court of law. Figure that out.

Hi Erika1228,

Congats on your husband being a US citizen soon and good luck with his oath ceremony coming up.

Good too, in wanting to get all the updates and paperwork done afterwwards.

Nope, no more notifying the USICS about anything once you are done with the entire process. Lol..that's one of the perks about becoming a US Citizen...to get rid of the USCIS forever! The only exception to the rule: 1) If your husband loses his citizenship certificate and needs a replacement (don't let that happen..as that can cost an extra $400+ and many months of delay). 2)If your husband/your family wants to petition another family member to immigrate over to the USA. 3) If your husband wants to work for the USCIS...lol....just kidding....

Other than that, just notify the following:

-Passport office (if you want a US passport)

-Social security

-Voter's Registration (if you want ot vote)

-DMV??? (not sure how it works in your state....might have to ask about that...)

-Employer (if applicable)

-Other (anything else you can think of....that needs to be notified of immigration status changes...)

Lol...If you have extra time...maybe you can burn and/or shred all that paperwork that you've gathered over the years in dealing with the USCIS....(just kidding...but then again..who needs all that extra joint evidence for the USCIS all over again....)

Hope this helps. Good luck with the rest of your immigration journey too.
