Here's a great document that studies the effects in Africa of child labor. It describes the reasons children are put to labor and the primary reason is subsistance.

It addresses the moral problems of abhorrent work situations such as mining, and soldiering and slavery. These are not the prevalent work environment however.

Most work the fields, in factories or other and need the job to subside in crushingly poor economies.

Remarkably, it's a small minorty in this country that has taken it upon themselves to define what "abhorrent" work conditions are for children in other countries. They have unrealistic and naive notions of what the work environment should be.

A sea of sewing machines manned by children isn't considered "abhorrent" and their are lots of familes in this world that need the money they get from these jobs.

The company is a disgrace.

They sold out America for a profit yet the average Joe yank is too stupid to even realize this.

Repus think selling out America is simply capitalism at work. Then in the next breath, they will talk about how much they love the country. Anyways  Love of country come after love of $$$$

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

How would you even tell from the labels at the market where they came from and what labor practices they engage in? You can't, so your choices are either buy them and ignore the moral dilema, or a straight out boycott. On some level, all produce has it's labor offenders. I'm not advocating anything here, just stating that it is increasingly difficult to be a responsible or moral consumer.

To be honest I look at everything I buy. I always trying to buy American first. Not only is the quality better but my money is circulating back in America.

It's a bloody disgrace that middle America has been sold out by the Walton family in-order to pursue cheaper production costs in foreign countries. They initiated a race to the bottom for retailers, which they won. What we gained in cheap prices, we lost in jobs and opportunity for our country. Which in turn has impacted all of us. The only people to gain from this is the stock portfolio of the mega rich. While the walmart workers get $7.5 an hour, $10,000,0000,000 is not enough money, they need even more cash.

Medication wise, I always make sure they are from either Europe, US, Canada, Australia or Japan.

I think kaydee is a bot.

 oh #######, I thought you said "hot"

Typical hysteria from a moron such as yourself. What's happening in *my country*? You're in this thread because you're typical of the hysterical libs that overreact to evrything on this subject, boycott products as a result, then offer those that you purport to be a champion of no alternative.....

So this 5-year old is child labor, eh?

I thought everyone got the memo. Even this girl is doing a job that Americans refuse to do.

I picked fruit during high-school breaks one summer so I guess I must have been willing to do the jobs Americans worth 1/5,000 my family apparently don't want to do. Heck my dad could have bought the farm I worked at in cash.

This is why everyone on VJ is so jealous on you. Their jealousy is why they gang up on you.

I was going to say in the other thread you created about savings that all America needs is a few more Indians to migrate here. That will put the savings back up there. I am sure you know what I mean by that.

You should say it there, then. And spell out what you mean, so others may know without having to read through the lines :)
