Native Alphabet (Q#16 on I-129F)

On Question 16 of the I-129 Form - it asks to write the Fiance's name and address abroad in the native alphabet if that alphabet uses Non-Roman letters.

My country is India and one can say that the native language is Hindi. However, English is as common as Hindi in India and everyone basically knows both.

My fiance does know Hindi and speaks it often - but English is the language of Business and her work is all done in English.

For those of you who have done the Indian petition, did you write the requested information in HINDI on Question 16?

It is a bit of a tricky question because both languages are fairly strong in the country - and you can succeed by speaking ONLY ENGLISH in India if you want to.

Any help is appreciated.

My fiance wrote his in his native language, Hindi, just as instructed. Though commonly spoken, english is considered a secondary language, so don't use this.

I wrote it in Punjabi since that is my fiancee's language. He speaks Hindi, but not on a daily basis. I think they are looking more for effort than perfection. Have you fiancee write it for you then you copy and practice a few times the way he wrote it. Maybe English would be okay, but why risk it for something you could simply practice and do. It's free, and it can't hurt you in the process to put the address in Hindi.

My husband's native language is TELUGU so he wrote his name and address in Telugu on the application.

I would stick with whatever language is on the birth certificate, national / regional ID card, tax returns.

India is a BILINGUAL COUNTRY, officially, right? ENGLISH, plus whatever language is 'local' to the region yer standing in at the moment.

you should write it in hindi . my forms were returned coz of this.then my husband wrote my name and address in hindi. i am a punjabi though.

plz dont write it in english coz thats not our first language.

now my application is well underway.

Definitely Hindi because Hindi was spoken there before the English ever came to India. So it is NATIVE. Even though my hubby speaks Punjabi first and primarily, Urdu is the national language of Pakistan, so we wrote his name and address in Urdu.
