I'm asking on behalf of friends:

They are filing for their AOS this next week, but the problem they have is that they expect to be moving around quite a bit. Let me give a little background. They are currently in an apartment the lease is about to expire on, and they're still looking for a place (but haven't settled on one yet). So their address is likely to change in the next two months.

The US citizen's mother lives in WA (they live in CA). They are considering using her address for the permanent address for the forms, until they've settled down on a place.

So, the questions:

1. Is it okay for them to use his mother's house for the address for the AOS/AP/EAD?

2. When they find a permanent place, does he submit the I-865 to change his address? Does she submit AR-11 or is that only once she's a resident? Do they submit both?

3. Could they use a PO Box in CA as the address for correspondence?

Thanks a lot. :)

Depends on how fast they find a place, they may get a biometrics appt for WA! I'd go with a PO box, unless USCIS specifically wants a residential address. But I don't think so.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail

Hello~ (said friend reporting in)

We are filling out 7 forms currently

for my wife: I-485 (AoS), I-765, I-131 & G-325a

for me: I-130, I-864, & G-325a

on my wife's I-131 (her travel document and most important document for us right now) we need her document to be sent to us somewhere to us where we know we can get it. The problem is that we're both currently living in an aparment that we'll be leaving shortly (as said above) probably in the next 4 to 6 weeks.

on the form here:

http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/i-131.htm (form info)

http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/files/I-131.pdf (<-- form)

in part 3 for travel document (aka advanced perole) it says "where do you want this travel document sent"

* to address listed in part 1

* to american embassy

* to DHS office overseas

* if embassy or DHS where should the notice to pick up document be sent? (fill in address)

- there is no option to send the travel document to any other address besides your current place of residency, an american embassy, or overseas.

however, wouldn't it still be safe for me to list my place of residency at this current apartment we are in, have it sent here, and then as soon as we move call and fill out our 865 (change of address) and send it in. If we move, and it gets sent to our current address here, the postal office should just forward it to us after I submit a change of address. I think, but it would be a lot easier to have it sent somewhere like a PO box so we could pick it up no matter where we are, although that isn't listed in the form.

ok, let me just clarify this. My wife is leaving to return to her country (Canada) Just before April (or at the latest early April). She is going home to help her family work (for a couple months as she has done every year). We need to get her travel document (AP) as soon as we can but we're also trying to move from our temporary apartment to a permanent living space in the same city. We can wait for all of our other documents to be sent to us, but we're trying to get her travel document to her before she leaves (and trying to make sure it gets sent to us somewhere that we can actually get it) we don't want it to be sent to our current address after we've moved out, and have it get lost somehow in handling or whatever, even though it would probably get forwarded to us by the postal service.

Is it possible for a USPS change of address form thingy? They will forward your mail, or wont they do that for USCIS stuff?? Are you moving within the same city? That could be an option too... oh oops you already said that.. lol.. I'm pretty sure they'd forward it if you had moved and they didn't change your address on time...
