Accompanying fiance when he moves

So, it's a long way out, we don't even have our NOA2 yet, but I was wondering if there was anything preventing me from driving him across the border when/if he gets his visa? Or does he have to cross on his own? Most of the stories I've read seems to show a beneficiary coming down alone.

We don't plan on moving his car down here, it's old and needs to be replaced anyway, and he doesn't actually own many material things other than clothing and some athletic gear, and his home in Vancouver (but obviously we can't move that :)).

I was in a the same situation. My car was old and dying so I left it behind and only took a few boxes with clothes and other important items. My SO drove up to Canada, we loaded up his car, and drove togther across the border and home. There is no problem with the petitioner coming along! I think it would have been a much more stressful experience if he wasn't with me.

I went and picked up my wife and drove her over the border. It's actually one of the memories we both hold closest, I'd definitely recommend doing it :)

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

Oh I totally agree Bowflex! That moment when we crossed and it finally hit us that from that moment on I was living in the US and we were never going to be apart anymore. It was even better than getting the visa approval.

Absolutely you can. My husband loves to tell the story of when he drove across the border to pick me and the cats up to bring us back to Georgia. He pulled up at the border and the official asks him where he is going. He says 'to Chatham' and the official asks him 'why'. Joe said 'to get my fiancee and bring her back to the US so we can get married'. The border official then waved him through saying, "Drive on, brother! Drive on! Far be it from me to stand in the way of another man's misery!'. :D

Good luck on your visa journey and hope you are on your way south together soon.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

My husband flew up to Toronto and then drove the incredibly overloaded Uhaul truck back to Virginia with me in the jump seat and my daughter in the passenger seat! I can't drive so it was the easiest way to get my stuff down to VA.

I'd post a pic. but I'm at work - we have a picture of us standing in front of the truck - 5 minutes before we left. My mom made us take the picture :)

He pulled up at the border and the official asks him where he is going. He says 'to Chatham' and the official asks him 'why'.

hahaha!!! Being from Tilbury originally, I 100% understand this... Or maybe it's just me that interprets the 'why' not so much as a regular line of questioning, but 'why' as in 'why the hell would you go there'. LOL

I think if my husband HADN'T flown up and driven with me across the border, I might not have crossed. So, if you want your Canadian, better go get him. :hehe:

LMAO!
