I'm getting these

With Quickoffice® Mobile Office Suite, you can view, edit, and email your important Microsoft Word and Excel files from your iPhone.

Pennies: for budget tracking

Loseit!: for keeping track of calories

skype and facebook

There's a bunch of cool apps for parents, but a little advanced for our baby - I'd like to try the one to teach the baby to signal but I think they have to be at least 6 months for that :)

Caro

One of the Apps I found very useful when I travel to see my sweetheart is the currency converter program called XE Currency.

It updates the daily dollar value and converts to whatever country currency, and from the other currency back to US dollars. It's a very simple App.

I think it's either Free or cheap.

I paid for "I Fly Pro" which is supposed to help you with real time info on airport layouts, flights, gates etc. That thing wasn't useful to me in the Philippines. I think it didn't even have the Airport I went to.

If you read the app reviews most of the time you get a good sense of it's worth paying for or not. Most everything I got was Free apps..

The Iphone worked great overseas for me but watch out. If you surf the web overseas roaming you can get hit with a monster bill unless you have a special plan for data roaming.

AT&T was kind enough to call me overseas and tell me that my data roaming bill was going to be over $300 and they switched me to a $60 per month plan and that's all I had to pay...

I've had an Iphone for over a year and no complaints at all...

I was wondering how they transport fuel down there. And, how they get their electricity. Or, who would service the radio station towers. Hmm...I wonder if it's possible.

All fuel is transported by tanker to the US station at McMurdo. Several million gallons annually. Fuel is then flow to the South Pole station which has it's own storage tanks. Power is provided by diesel generator, huge diesel generators. If you are interested, I can give you a few links to check out.

Well even if you're not interested, here's one good link.

My father was on an ice breaker in the 60's that would go to McMurdo to open the shipping lanes.

That must have been an interesting job. It's another world down there.
