One of my favourite memories of what we used to do while we were still waiting for the K-1 was to have Sunday breakfast together. We would chat on the phone while we each ate breakfast and talk about what we were going to do that day, or what we had done the day before. It was nicely intimate - at least as intimate as you can be 900 miles apart.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Oh! Thanks Kathryn. That reminds me of another ritual my wife and I have often done: sushi night!

I have a great sushi place a few blocks from me, and she has a good one a couple miles away from her...so we would both get orders of sushi, bring it home and watch a movie or something while stuffing ourselves with fish and rice.

We used to talk on skype, sleep with out headsets on, lol we were so silly we'd wake up and hear the other person there and wake them up to say goodmorning. =P

We also played WoW and online Scrabble. Always on MSN and txt on our phones.

- J taught me some programming via voice chat

- We'd draw a picture using some graphics program and send it back and forth, each adding a bit more to it (the attached pic, for example)

We talked on Yahoo IM for hours a day. He used to work nights and was never all that busy, so he would log in when he woke up in the early afternoon, while I was at work and we would chat, then we would talk between his jobs at his work. We never really had much time apart. He would work 5 days 12 hour shifts, then drive the 8 hours to visit on his days off. Or if we had something to do up there, I drove up there for the weekend. My job now I can work from home if I need to, so if I plan a trip to Canada, I'll leave on Wednesday or Thursday night, work from "home" for the rest of the week and still have time with him. Now that he's unemployed, he's been spending more time down here and going back home for a week or two. So its getting me used to having him around (which is good since I've never had a roommate or anything ever) and he gets to adjust to life here a bit before he is here permanently.

So now when we are apart, we still talk on messenger during the day. He'll call me from time to time when I get real cranky and just want to hear his voice and when he's not near a computer if he is visiting his family in Saint John, NB we text each other just to say I miss you or I love you. We send messages on facebook and sometimes read articles on websites together that we find mutually interesting.

I go crazy if I don't see him at least once a month. I can't imagine what people go through going months or years without seeing their loved ones. I go nuts after 2 weeks! I'm just a spoiled girl. What can I say???:thumbs:

Yeah, Anna and I haven't been apart for more than five weeks since we got married...and we won't be. I'm flying down to Washington D.C. tomorrow (totally last minute...she was coming here, but her flight through Denver got nixed), then to spend Thanksgiving with her and her parents in Buffalo. Then she's got a flight booked to come up here for Christmas...but if some sort of progress happens with our immigration case (i.e.: I get an interview) then things will change, of course.

But despite the fact that we're both very independent people, we can't stand to be apart. I mean, we tolerate it since we have to...but it does eat at us. I'm sure the same is true for pretty much everyone here though or else...well...they wouldn't be here!

Actually, it works to our benefit. My wife is in EST while I'm in PST...three hours apart. But when I was working (as mentioned elsewhere, I was recently laid off), I would be out the door around 7:00 AM...and she starts work at 10:00 AM where she is, which evens itself out. As a result, she would be up until around midnight her time anyhow, and I'd be up to 9:00 or 10:00 PM. So it worked out well.

I can imagine it would be tougher for people with different schedules though.

I was wondering how that turned out for you! If I may, did you get a super great last minute deal???? I find my plane ticket to BWI from Air Canada has SKY rocketed lately. I hate those mangy bxstards at Air Canada.

Anyway, glad you guys worked something out, it's horrible having the weather and canceled flights have an impact on your visiting with your spouse.

Good luck< Wyatt and have a super fun time.

Yeah! It worked out well. I managed to find a flight on Airtran at 1:30 tomorrow for only $240 return! I have to fly out from Seattle, but that's par for the course for me -- that's where I usually fly from anyhow, since anything out of Vancouver is always over $600. Even when you factor in gas and parking it's well worth it to fly from Seattle for me.

It was pretty horrible last year when she was coming here for Christmas and meeting my family for the first time. She was flying out on Christmas Eve, but there were major issues with her flights, causing them to put her on a flight the next day...Christmas Day! So we didn't get in to Vancouver until around 7:00...so we just wound up having Chinese food for supper and rescheduled dinner etc. with my family for a few days later.

Me visiting her for a week might not be the wisest thing for me right now given my work / living situation (i.e.: I just gave notice at my apartment today...), but hey...it's love. I'll come back and have a couple of weeks to pack up all of my belongings, then temporarily move back in with my parents until the immigration stuff goes through. It's embarrassing, given that I'm a grown, married man, but I take solace in the fact that there's a very good reason behind it all...and soon I'll be with my wife permanently!

And yes. A super fun time will be had by the both of us, I'm sure. Um. Maybe I should pluralize that. Times. Yes...times. :P

I flew Airtran a couple months ago and quite liked their service. I wasn't expecting much...but they had great staff, clean planes and everything was on time.
