That's easy..... the root cause is the number of people who post all kinds of ####### trying to get their oh-so-precious little red hearts. I'd hate to see the size of the MySQL database for this site. Even the indexes have to be ungodly. Add to that the number of images people use here, the timelines, etc, and I wouldn't be surprised if the database for this board was in the 1-2 GB range. Without some serious optimization (and a SERIOUS server), it's gonna be slow and buggy at times.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

yep. The dB on the old forums was 1-2 GB. In 6 months the new forums has a "posts" table of about 450MB.... Yikes!

I'd suggest that the OFF-TOPIC forum is the biggest culprit and that perhaps you should instigate a time-limit for keeping off-topic posts (like say 12 months old, or 50 pages of posts, whichever comes sooner.) People might need to search for old on-topic postings but I honestly can't see ANY use in keeping aged jokes and chit-chat...
