oh yeah, they are evil! lol but calling within the us is good though so i cant complain lol

I use AT&T for my cellular service. I get to send and receive free texts (including to honey in the PI) and free long distance in the anywhere in the USA and my friend in Canada.

Hoping that the PinoyTawag stuff works well so calling the PI will be cheap as well... Quality of the call is what most concerns me after price is considered.

Customer service is WAY different with the providers here. :star:

just want to say if your in america and want to call your family, fiance, etc in the philippines , there is a company called [pinoy tawag] i used for 5 months now and it is 44$a month and you can call there unlimited all day and nite long.they send your filipino family etc a chip for there phone and it has an american local number and a philippine number in it,when you call from usa you dial the usa local number and your filipina recipients phone rings and you talk all you want.there is no contract either very good to have

Hello - I am using SMART plugNtalk. It's like A USB key that all you are going to do is plug it to your computer. With a smart sim card, buy a load and text and call your friends and family in the Philippines like you are just there. You'll be able to send text for one piso for smart to smart, call them for just like you are there. What's so call is they can text you too if they are on their unlimited texting. You don't have to pay monthly bills because it depends on you if you want to load it or not. Just like a normal phone in the PI.

Anyway, just thought that I might want to share this to all my kababayans.

God Bless everyone !! !!

i used pinoy tawag too,yes magic jack is cheaper, but i think the pinoy tawag gives the recepient a sim card and they put it on the celphone, so you can still call your love one even if they are not at home as your love ones can bring the phone with the sim card, not sure if the magic jack can only be used at home with the computer

I just sent my Ole Lady a vonage router and call her from there.

For texting I installed google voice on my Iphone and i can text anywhere in the world for free, Of course you will need a invitation to sign up for google voice but well worth it. If anyone is interested i have a couple of invitations that i can email you.

I've researched just about every way to call to and from the Philippines and it's expensive and there's little avoiding it. However, I did come up with the most affordable set up and I hope people follow this example because it will cost you very little.

I bought my fiance a netbook and had her internet at home set up.

When I want to call her, I set myself up an account on localphone.com and it exchanges her number for a local one. It basically works a little like a calling card. The rate is 13 cents a minute for cell phone and 12 cents a minute for landline. So when I want to get ahold of her if she's not online, I'll call her for half a minute or less and tell her to get online, or communicate whatever I need to communicate in a short amount of time. You can send a text message to the Philippines cell phone from the website as well...it only costs 5 cents a text.

So, when I call her I then tell her to get on SKYPE.

Video calls SKYPE to SKYPE are totally free.

But the catch is, I set up her SKYPE account for unlimited calling to the US and Canada for 3 dollars a month. So for next to nothing, she can call my cellphone or any US/Canada phone from her computer on SKYPE. SKYPE charges 25 cents a minute to call the Philippines so that should be avoided.

Our communication method is very efficient and costs very little.

skype is cool but i will tell you whats better. MAGIC JACK or tk6000 reason why? you can call philippines for FREE no charges nothing. it's skype on steroids why bother paying to talk to your loved one? when you can just send her a magic jack or a tk600 they set it up get a local us phone number and start talking for 20 dollars a year.

If you like spending money use the others but if you like saving money use magic jack or tk6000.

if you both have a computer...skype is the best video chat hands down. and its free for that. But i agree with magicjack...but the they have to have a highspeed connection otherwise they can hear you...but you cant hear them very well.

yea magicjack sux at times because it's computer dependent if you got a old slow computer qaulity will suffer. if the usb ports are underpowered and not using a powered usb hub quality will suffer. Ways to combat this are using process priority programs such as lasso which will designate Magic jack cpu resources at highest priority. and or using a usb powered hub to ensure magic jack gets the full 500ma power it needs. USaually since 500 ma is the max output of a usb port some computers usb ports will put out slightly less than that and what happens is Magic Jack will start to perform bad, noisy call quality choppy voice echo etc.

That's why i mentioned tk6000. It works like magicjack except it doesn't need a computer. You just plug it into a router and a phone on the other end then the power cord (not sure if it runs on 220v, so if not then need to use a converter) set it up get a us phone number and that's it. its 100 dollars for the device and first 3 years of service then 20 dollars a year after that. Its looks like a magic jack in design but run alittle like a vonage except without the monthly fees :D check it out made by net talk one of the biggest voip companies.

www.tk6000.com

Magic jack and tk6000 are dependent on a broadband connection so if your family got it in phils u can save lots of $$$$ if not well you know how it goes. My inlaws in phils use magicjack and when they call or i call them it's like they are next door in quality and my phone bills went from 80 dollars a month to 4 dollars a month! and we talk everyday! and whats more awesome they can call me and my wife anywhere. we don't have to be at a computer to talk to them they call us as if they are local. so it gives greater access to us when they need it. and vice versa.

You can have whatever plan and boast about it but it can't beat this plan lol voip is the best hands down.
