Getting There:

E and I arrived Philly a day before the interview day. Out hotel is fairly close to the Immigration Office, about a mile. But still we took a taxi just so that we did not have to deal with the whole parking issue.

We arrived the building about 45 mins earlier. Once he saw us, the security guard laughed and said to us “ Are you guys moving in?” We laughed. He is right. We did have a lot of stuff. J

Then we took the elevator to the third floor. There was one young couple and another two people waiting. They all had lawyers with them. We did the whole green card application process by ourselves. There is no need for lawyers if you can handle it yourselves.

We waited about 35 mins. Both my husband and I had books so reading kept us busy.

Then, a young lady called our names.

Interview:

She was our immigration officer. She was very nice and polite. Our interview began with us taking the oath.

Then, she asked me a number of questions:

1. My name

2. My home address

3. My husband’s full name

4. My husband’s birth place and birth date

5. Who cooks in the family

6. Why do I love him the most ( the same question for my husband)

Routinely, I also received the following Yes/No questions:

1. Have I ever been arrested for breaking the law?

2. Have I ever been deported or barred entry to the US?

3. Am I a member of a terrorist organization (More on this in a second)

4. Have I ever been a member of the Communist party (as a British Columbian and a Canadian, I had to try hard to stifle a chuckle on that one)?

5. Have I ever received public assistance in the United States?

6. Have I ever voted?

She then asked to see a copy of our marriage certificate, and some photos.

She did not look through all the albums we had. She asked for a few pictures to keep as a record. And then, she said “you will be receiving your conditional green card within two weeks. The reason you will have the conditional green card is just because that you are newly weds. After two years, you can lift it and then you will have the regular one for a longer period of time.”

We said thank you. Yeah!!!

The whole interview took about 25 minutes and it was not hard.

The most important thing is to be prepared! Good luck to all of you!

Smile

Ada
