I am going to visit my fiancé in December and come back and send I-129F petition in January and I can’t think of anything that needs to be translated for the petition. But later when my fiancé has her interview she will have to translate her birth certificate and police certificate. Does anyone know somebody in Ukraine who can do it right? I could bring her papers to US in January, translate them here and either send them to her along with my papers or bring them to her on my second visit. My concern is that the police certificate will be 7 – 8 months old if she gets it in December. Does it matter? How did you handle your fiancé’s translation? Thanks!!!

translation services are all over the place in just about every city in Ukraine... she will know or one of her friends will...

for consulate purposes, police report is valid for 12 mos. it takes about 3 weeks.. really no need to get it until nearer the interview date

Good Advice. There are lots of people in Ukraine that can give you a certified translation and it is generally cheaper than here. Glad to see you are thinking ahead, but relax. You are still in for a long wait.

You might also want to pay to have medical records translated as they will eventually be needed here but not for the interview. If she has college records, a translation of those can be helpful also.

If she has no divorce certirficate from a previous marriage, you are correct, nothing translated is needed for the petition. Alla does translations for Russian and Ukrainian. Lately she has had to "re-translate" soem translations done in Ukraine. The consulate, like USCIS requires they be "certified" by the translator. Some of them from Ukraine, though stamped will all kinds of those official stamps, had no certification by the translator. They were rejected and the visa was held until they had certified translations. Oddly enough, one of the translations she "re-translated" HAD the certification..there it was, plain as day! In Ukrainian!!!! They did not accept it, though the consulate staff could no doubt it read it.. So be careful with the translations, make sure they are certified and have the name, address and phone number of the translator.

Alla can do translations by scanned documents also, provided they are legible. Cetified, signed originals have to be mailed. Police certificate, as Payixbka mentions, is valid for 12 months at the consulate.

I will second the motion on school records. At the very least, bring her education credentials with her, even in Russian/Ukrainian, she can always translate them here, but there are evaluation outfits that will evaluate and assign a "US equivilency" to her education fairly reasonable. They need the original language transcripts (copies are fine) and a translation. Most of the time, but not always, Ukrainian education is given full faith and credit here.

I will ask my Fiancé to get the police certificate in December before my visit so I could bring it here along with her birth certificate and ask Alla to translate them.
