Stina - My dad is an attorney with the same firm :) Here in Jacksonville of course...but he's been with them for ages. It's a VERY prestigious firm...and not just cause I'm biased.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

Wow, a job with 4 weeks paid vacation! I didn't think such a thing existed in the US :o

After being at my current employer for 5 years, I just got 3 weeks vacation + 4 personal days... 1 day short of 4 weeks, lol.

Yeah we know 4 weeks PTO is very rare!! We were shocked too. It's actually a lawyer's firm that he will be working for (Holland and Knight), in the IT dept for them. He may also get additional holidays every year, since the lawyers work around court holidays(govt holidays) and such.

It's such a blessing, because it means he can plan visits to India easier and stay longer on trips.

Wait, did you say PTO? So that includes sick days, right? That's pretty good if you're in good health, then you can use it all for vacation. My previous employer used PTOs and the employees who needed to take lots of 1-2 days off for medical reasons hated it. Ate up all their vacation days. I get sick days separate right now and it's worthless to me... I need to show a doctors note to take more than 2 sick days at a time so my ability to use those sick days for vacation is limited :(

Yes it's PTO, which is good for Sujeet also since he rarely gets sick. He hasn't been sick enough not to go to work since he's been here. That doesn't mean he hasn't used any sick days...:P

Sujeet accepted a job offer yesterday from a great company in downtown Tampa. He was already working elsewhere, for a year and 6 months, but was not very happy with his job for several reasons. The new job has higher salary, and awesome benefits like 4 weeks PTO/year! :o I am very happy for him. He is also happy. He had been looking for a new job for about 3 months before this opportunity came along.

He's really settled here in the US, and I am proud of him for doing so much, in less than 2 years after moving here! Sept 2 he will have been here 2 years.

I hope it also encourages others who will be moving here soon. Sure he misses his family, and misses stepping outside his flat to get a yummy Indian snack sold by street vendors. But overall, he has blended here very well. India is much different than the US, yet he still has been able to feel at home here. He is hardly ever around other Indians and has gotten the full American experience. :P Though I wish he could have some Indian friends sometimes, but he never says that, I just think it. At his new job, one of his bosses is from India so that's cool, and he already likes Sujeet a lot.

Just happy for him! :D:D:D

that is great news..my best to sujeet and his new job...

I have the same and this is my 11th year. I think whoever offers me a job next, my negotiation will be about PTOs not salary.:whistle:

I made dal, rice, and a potato dish on Monday night

what potato aloo? yumm! Dal is my daddy's favorite. Whenever I need a favor, I just cook up some daal and he is putty in my hands. I know, bad daughter.

Ok now I am hungry so I am going to Sukhadia's down the street (a vegetarian indian take out).

Yes, daal is lentils.

Desis have been eating daal well before hippies ever existed :P

I don't know why I don't like it. I just don't. Well, I like some kinds of daal. Like arahar daal with onions.
