I am not a civil engineer. However, I know whoever did the emergency repairs forgot his ethical code: Uphold the safety of the Public.

He should have considered the worst case analysis whenever doing analytical jobs such as bridge building. Just like I do in semiconductors. I analyze the worst case delay in the parasitics of the semiconductors, so as not to overshoot anything. The semiconductor is actually faster than it is stated on the spec sheet. The reason is so to prevent the user from getting a loss in quality.

The engineer who analyze the structure have totally done his analysis wrong. That is why the bridge became broken. He didn't do a worst case analysis on it. If he cannot find a structure in time, limit the traffic flow by reducing lanes. Here in Boston, the older bridges like the Torbin Bridge (lower layer), traffic is reduced from 3 lanes to 2 lanes.

so get out to cali and fix it right!

was this repaired under the new 'work ready projects' federal funding thingie? That's gotta suck, if so.

There are mental issues involved, so the repair work needs a counselor to be on site to make sure no one's feelings are hurt.

Here's an idea. Build new Bridges..

Amazing right.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

It's being done in the case of that bridge. The failed section is scheduled to be replaced in three or four years.

No I mean a new bridge, since the majority of the country's infrastructure is stuck in the stone ages.

Not to mention, that is a great long-term project that actually does create thousands of jobs. The only job creation I see in my area is road paving, which is a joke.

They are currently building a new bridge along side the old bridge. The Okland Bay Bridge is not one bridge, but a series of bridges linked together. The same is happening with other bridges in the area, the Martinez Bridge I think is either just completed, or will be soon completed.

Forget bridges. Why not bring Fiber Networks throughout the US? I'm surprised not many muncipalities are applying for the stimulus funds for these projects. It'll be awesome! If more people by online, there's less a need to have to drive. Green! Less gas to consume. It'll all be great!

It's sad, really. But what's the alternative? Right, going for the really worthwhile project of improving infrastructure - new builds - but that doesn't get started in weeks but rather months. They do it right here in the Bay area where we will use stimulus funds for actual infrastructure improvements but those projects will start only next year. And then you're up against the "where are the jobs" argument that opponents of investments into our future are pushing day in and day out. The waste of funds is due largely to the need to score quick political points rather than taking the long term view. This is why we're stuck in the middle of the last century when it comes to our infrastructure.

Booyah must live in the wrong community. We are surrounded by "Cone-Zones". Apparently, living in a district close to Pelosi's does have some advantages.

Makes sense, Pelosi is a cone head.

Calif. is rotting from the inside out. We don't repair bridges unless they start falling apart because one administration can just "defer" proper repairs until the next administration, and so on and so on. So deferred repairs dont save money at all when there is a major bridge or road or pipe burst failure.

Closing the public parks will just let them slide into neglect, and that will cost more to make them proper again.
