What I find disturbing is he is calling this a moral issue

yes to him it is a moral issue. He is based it on his church beliefs.. He is a Fundaments.

Of course they also belive in that the will world will end soon

Anyone watching the Daily Show tonight?

Jon Stewart is talking about this. He's comparing Bush's statements regarding the precious life of these embryos and how he dismissed 30,000 Iraqi deaths. Someone commented that they were symptoms of the outcome (paraphrasing). Jon calls it "the diarea (sp?) and upset stomach of freedom".

I agree fully and that is moral? hmmm

I would say Bush's sense of morality comes and goes to suit his personal interests.

I GLAD he vetoed it. Since when is it ok to experiment with human lives-especially those that are most vulnerable? You guys could care less about a PETA march to stop experimentation on animals but line up and protest when someone stands up for human life. It is a life and death issue. Those embryos shouldn't be there in the first place-people that have difficulty having children have no right to sacrifice innocent lives to fulfill their selfish need to have a biological child. There are many wonderful children needing homes.

Those are babies and I truely rejoice he protected life.

ace13: Shouldn't Bush then make destroying said embryos illegal too? This is the fate of most of these embryos after all, a very small percentage of them will become the so called "Snowflake Children".

I would rather they be used to better mankind than incinerated.

I should be illegal. You can't better serve mankind by killing one segment to serve the other. It is wrong.

You've just destroyed a major area of fertility treatment then. The fact is if that the clinics that perform this fertility treatment had the legal requirement to ensure each embryo became a full human being they would go out of business, because that legal requirement would be impossible for them to meet. The result: more childless couples and less children.

So you have two choices: Stop IVF treatment, or incinerate embryos. Which do you choose?

not only bush.. if it were immoral to destroy human life.. why a lotta people are pro-death penalty? supporting death penalty and not supporting stem cell research is a hipocrisy

I don't agree.... pro-death penalty = a person has proven they can't and no longer have the right to exist in society.... anti-stem cell research / abortion = those babies haven't had the opportunity to make any mistakes to condemn them to death...

I don't agree with Bush on a lot of things... this one I do... killing innocent people (including ones who haven't been born yet) is wrong.

Unfortunately, his morality does not extend to anyone beyond US borders.

pro-death penalty is destroying human life. i'm sorry but there is no way that it can't be.

and embryonic material doesn't mean it's an embryo. it has the potential to be but it isn't yet, as someone has already explained.

I have already answered that. I do not believe invetro is right. Babies die because of it.

Fuzzyness: Embryo=Life=Baby Anyone who has told you differently is just trying to make themselves feel less guilty for killing innocent life.

BTW I am against the death penalty. ;)

I am against fetal farming :(

I am against using babies in science experiments :(

Read what I said again. I didn't say an embryo wasn't life, I said embryonic material isn't an embryo. It's not an embryo until all the materials are put together properly. Until then, it's just... stuff

I don't understand the difference. What exactly is embryonic material? Is it not the beginning of the baby?

I'm pro-death penalty and it feel becomes necessary when someone proves without a doubt that they are not suited to exist with others in this world. I'm not saying it should be carried out in all cases but there are clearly times when it's for the well being of everyone else.

That is quite possibily the most fecked up point of view I have ever heard. IVF = Murder. Wow.

Still, at least you're being consistent and not hypocritical, unlike Bush.

People that do invetro know they are killing some of their babies. The doctor even tells them "Ms X, 8 out of the 10 eggs were fertilized successfully." HELLOOOO! That means there are 8 babies there. Of course this lady doesn't want 8 kids so she implants one this year-another in a few years and dumps the rest of them. It makes me really sad that people can feel so unattached to life they created and not feel bad about it. :(

i'll only support such as long as it is not from embryonic stem cells.

"Embryonic stem cell research is particularly controversial because, with the present state of technology, starting a stem cell 'line' requires the destruction of a human embryo and/or therapeutic cloning."

and yes, i'm pro death penalty too. how can that be? in one case, a person is put to death for their actions inconsistent with society. in the case of embryonic stem cells the person (if you follow the catholic church doctrine) is put to death for being.........young. what a crime to commit.
