So just this year alone, I had four distant acquaintances try to buddy up with me after not talking to me for years, and they all sound like they are reading from a script. All four conversations have started out like this:

Friend: Hey, long time... How are you?

Nina: I am doing good. How are you?

Friend: I have been busy with my new business. Listen, where are you working now? What do you do there?

Nina: I work in company xyz.

Friend: If you are looking to make some money on the side, I can help you.

This is when they will direct me to their websites, and all four of their websites look eerily similar just with different names. They all claim to be "distribution companies" with products such as vitamin tablets, skin creams, soaps, etc. Upon further digging, I found out that they are a part of Amway. From what I have understood so far, Amway/Quixtar sound like a glorified pyramid scheme. Does anyone know anything about them? I am curious if it is a scam or not.

To join, you also need to pay a 500 dollar fee. Your friend will then be promoted to the a higher level than you, and will get some percentage of the 500 dollars. When you recruit someone, you will elevate to a higher position. You will also get commission from your recruit. Then, your friend who recruited you will also get dibs on your recruitment too.

If you been to their seminars, many of them are high school dropouts, immigrants who speaks hardly of English, and those who are making measly income.

Yes, I've tapped once, but never joined. I knew it smells fishy.

There are also several documentaries and video investigations on them. They are wacked.

Yeah, it does sound like a pyramid scheme. And I did notice that the people who tried to recruit me were immigrants. It sounds very fishy when anyone says that there is a lot of easy money to be made!

One can make money 2 ways with this company:

1. sell products or

2. sign up a new rep.

If you don't feel comfortable to harass yer friends to get them to be reps, then selling products might be useful for you.

There are many ways to sell, many channels to get into - all depends on your SELLING ABILITY.

I agree with you though - lots of folks harass their friends and relatives 'to join' .

You think you got problems with it? It's expanded to China, my wife wants to try..

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
