MENA Baby Names

I'm pregnant now...and we were going to use names that were Arabic, but also sounded like American style names :)

Girl: Kinzy Zahara...Both are Arabic. Hubby picked Kinzy, I picked Zahara for the middle name.

Later changed to Kinzy Julep (Hubby didn't like Zahara...so I said Julep instead since I'm from the south and always liked Julep as a name)

Boy: Kamran Peter...Kamran is Arabic but sounds like Cameron... and Peter is Biblical (and my hubby's name)

Later changed to Brighton Peter (Hubby kept pronouncing Kamran funny, so he said he didn't like it anymore LOL...so I said how about Brighton? It's a boys name I've always liked. As soon as hubby said it and pronounced it correctly haha, he loved it!)

So we started with Arabic names...but it changed more-so to American style names lol. I was the one that was more drawn to the Arabic names :)

And as my Profile Name shows...we found out we are having a BOY and his name is BRIGHTON PETER. Hubby's family loves the name too, but they always have a confused look when they ask me what the name means and I say it doesn't really have a meaning LOL (if you look it up, it means 'Bridge Settlement' haha). They are big on name meanings here.

My daughter's name is Zahra. Zahara is more of an American spelling * Angelina Jolies's Daughter LOL

I have mixed emotions now about her name. Some days I wished I would have picked something more americanized like Sarah or Sofia. People NEVER can pronounce her name correctly.

I have to lol about my prior posts in this thread from 3 years ago talking about how I didn't want a too American sounding name if my husband and I had a child. Well our daughter has a very American sounding name, Sofia. :) I chose the name, my husband chose the spelling. She does have his name, his father's name and his grandfather's name as middle names.

I know. Looking back at anything I posted years ago knowing what I know know makes me sigh and roll my eyes.

I don't think you're the only one. I bet lots of people roll their eyes at their former, newly in love selves. I know I do. I feel like a huge dork when I read my old stuff from like 2006.

Yeah I didn't want my daughter to have a name that was difficult to pronounce. I discovered that I really am not nuts about any Arabic girl names. I think some are very pretty sounding but none really suited her. My husband is pushing for another and wants a boy he can name after his dad. Yeah, no. His father's name is way too much to put on a baby plus, I have declared the baby factory to be closed. :)

His dad's name is abderrazek. Ugh.

Honestly, my pregnancy and subsequent post partum depression have helped me come to the conclusion that I need not have another. I still see a therapist for the ppd, 13 months later. I have other issues which became worse due to ppd (diagnosed as major depressive disorder). But thank you for your kind words. :)

Definitely a fun post!!!

Insha'Allah when my husband and I have children we like the names:

boy: Ibrahim Aziz

girl: Sophia Rania

<img src="http://www.visajourney.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/luv.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":luv:" border="0" alt="luv.gif" />

them two are my favorites, also.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

That is kind of an interesting old name though.. What would be his nickname? Abdo? Raki?
