I have a few questions. Do we need both passport and police clearance? which one should i get first? i just got the NOA2 and my case number at NVC was assigned on 10/24/09. Am i hurrying too much? I heard it is better to get police clearance first and submit a copy of that for passport clearance? Please advice. I think indian govt offices work quite differently so please people with experience, your opinion will be highly appreciated.

For my wifes case I submitted color copy of local/district PCC with DS230 and stated that original will be handed over at VFS or interview. She needed her local/district PCC to obtain her Passport PCC and the Passport PCC at Ahmadabad is only given with either a request/checklist from NVC or interview letter. Not sure how it is in other states.

Since they just got married there priority date is current...

The police website mentions they need consulate letter that says these certificates are required. I told my wife to get the NOA2 and website print out from the chennai consulate that states those are required. anyone know what needs to go with the application for police and passport clearance to proof you need this for american immigrant visa?

Hello! Would be able to tell me how you went about getting a Passport Clearance Certificate from Ahmedabad? What documents did your wife have to submit to get clearance? Furthermore, you wrote that you notified the NVC that your wife would give the Passport clearance on day of interview, was this accepted by NVC? You weren't issued a RFE? The NVC accepted only copies of PCC? I don't want to send in the originals to NVC and prefer to have my spouse sumbit at time of interview. Any information is much appreciated. Thank you.

I found a lot of answers to these types of questions in the following thread:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/248884-police-clearance-certificate-india-bangalore-help/page__p__3828425__hl__police__fromsearch__1entry3828425

By the way, the Police Clearance Certificates should be valid for one year, not 6 months.

You can email the Embassy directly to confirm this point, but it should be 1 year.
