Oh I should also ask... are we allowed to open a thread just for religion? Should we ask Ewok?

No need to ask Ewok... the Regional forums were designed for discussions like this!!!

I have never advised anyone here NOT to register your marriage with the state nor have I claimed that I will not do this myself when Yousuf is here.

I haven't made a claim that you said not to register, Layla, but you have said that it's not required to have a valid nikah, and that is just plain wrong. What's wrong with your stance is that it's LITERALIST (and someone said I'm a absolutist!) By literalist, I mean that you endorse following the letter of the law - offer, acceptance, consideration, a wali, two witnesses - but you refuse to acknowledge that the sharia DOES require protection for both parties to fulfil the spirit of the law. That is what enforcement and protection is all about.

Because you have no way to enforce your contract, you have no protection, so you are missing a major element of protection and enforcement, thus not meeting the test for validity. That you tell people that it's ok because you did the ceremonial steps, still unwilling to even discuss the impact of lacking elements of protection and enforcement - and you have refused to do so, you have set up a straw man, and that is what is in violation of the sharia.

You are either married or you are not, and you cannot seriously claim that you have all the REQUIRED elements of a valid marriage if you have no recourse to enforce and uphold that piece of paper you submitted to the USCIS. That you absolutely will not address that failure and its affect on the completion of the clauses is significant to me in determining how serious you are about this issue and how your views impact others who read them. You have taken an advocate position for half-marriage, claiming it to be sufficient and halal simply on the basis that it fulfils the ceremonial requirements.

You talk alot about what was then, in the Prophet's day, and how it shouldn't change. But things have changed. Communities don't police the reputation of its citizens like they used to. Used to be that if a marriage was in trouble, all the relations and others would step in to facilitate a solution. Used to be that people would travel freely, no immigration formalities, but these days, they cannot. New circumstances require adjustments in ways to facilitate solutions, and marrying within the law is one legitimate way to do so.

If you feel put upon, you should. Your position has been irresponsible and self-serving to those who may seek to satisfy themselves in such a manner - marriage withut protection.

I dare anyone to make the claim and demonstrate that a legitimate means of providing PROTECTION and ENFORCEMENT are not required for a halal marriage in Islam. I dare anyone to claim and demonstrate that Layla has either or both. If you cannot do that, then you have to concede that she does NOT have an Islamic marriage in the true sense of the term and is remiss in saying that she does.

Some of you guys buy her "poor me" act, but I don't. She has, from the beginning, refused to address the missing elements. Refused, then wondered why I keep asking. I wonder why the rest of you AREN'T asking why protection isn't being addressed. If not, why not? Clue me in, please.

And then we'll have this and the other closed?

This is a thread I started, Layla. If you have it closed without MY consent, I will inform Ewok that you have been advocating fraud against the government, and that you have done.

Sure, you will keep the "arab-critical" out with an arabic title. You will fool everyone. The two existing threads are actually perfect if thats what you seek. I for one, am really impressed with how this discussion has stayed between me/na-ers so long without intrusions and the kind of thread you want is right in front of you already.

She doesn't like it becoz I continue to call her out on it. I raised five kids and I know a manipulator when I see it, and we have a major one among us with this chickie.

Oh, and shonnie, you were right about her starting it on this thread. She had to pick on Dorothy, then call those who disagree with her "deviants" to be ignored. Then, she wonders why this happens!

We don't always know what others are thinking, so sometimes we have to ask. This is slightly off-topic, but I am so curious, I just have to know. Why is it that when a meaty subject comes about (not only here, I see this on other message boards too), evitably there will be those who post to tell others that THEY don't like the subject, depth, tone, take your pick of offense, so NO ONE should be posting about it.

Why not just stay away from that particular thread instead of trying to stop others from going there? Out of sight, out of mind, imo. I'm plenty opinionated, but I've never felt the need to tell others what they can and cannot discuss when it's obvious that others are enjoying the exchange. Heck, there are plenty of other topics to participate in on any board, and only so many times you may feel like conveying another "Wow! I'm so happy for you!" or "I hope it all works out for you soon" in a day. There is plenty of opportunity for that. Some folks could use a diversion once in a while.

I'm not talking about complaining that a subject is inappropriate for a particular board, I've seen this attempt at censorship on lots of boards, not just this one. I'm saying that you just don't like discussing _____, so you want it to end for everyone who does like discussing _______. Please, clue me in as to how that works.

Thanks!

while its true this has turned religous. in the onset of this topic the OP < szsz > never use the words

" Layla" " flame " " religon" "islam" for that matter " k-1" . she represents open discussion by using

" --------------------------" I dont know how this bacame a "

" however, it is very hurtful to me to see these two threads every day in which my name is being slandered and I am being viciously attacked " thread.
