I did a search and can't find any info.

I was laid off before I went to visit my Fiance and stayed with her for 3 months, then came back and have been looking for a job for the past 4 months since I came back. Due to the economy I can't find a job that will pay to support even my basic needs. Right now Unemployment is able to support my bills, but any job that will meet the requirements will not. Currently I'm on unemployment and been looking like crazy for a job, but no luck.

I have seen mixed reviews on the Affidavit of Support and Unemployment. Is it counted as income? What can I do to get her here when I am unable to find a job? I could easily find a job worth $13 an hour to meet the poverty guidelines, but then I would be forced to sell my assets and move due to not being able to support myself.

I can't do a Co-Sponsor since Manila frowns highly upon them and only *sometimes* supports family co-sponsors, but my mother was recently laid off as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

you can still petition for her while looking for a job, and once your petition is approved (in 3-6 months hopefully) you will already have a stable job.

but since petitioning your fiancee requires first and foremost that you will declare financial responsibility for her if and when she's admitted to the US, and at the moment you cannot, and do not have a possible co-sponsor either, looks like the best thing to do is keep your relationship strong and long lasting while you concentrate on looking for a job.

Our petition was already approved and it was sent to NVC. I've been looking for a job non stop since I arrived home.

Why not get a joint sponsor?

I don't think you could possibly get in trouble for having one as it is not the CO's who make the rules and the option is there...

From what I hear, the CO's in Manila frown/deny people who have Co-Sponsors. They may accept someone with a co-sponsor that's related to you, but my only family member in the area got fired without cause so they can't co-sponsor me.

There is nothing mixed about it. Unemployment counts as income. Period. Any information to the contrary is wrong. That's the good news. Now the bad news. It is not permanent and the consulate does not have to consider it. I am not aware of any cases approved on Unemployment income only. Maybe you would be the first?

You have a couple of options. One is a co-sponsor. Yes, Manila frowns on them and if you are unemployed you have no choice.

The other is to be self employed. For example I can never be laid off as I have a couple of self employment gigs and can always add a few more. If I got laid off today, my employment status would change from "employed" to "self-employed" and my current income for the year to date, verifiable by a bank letter of deposits for the past 12 months would qualify me in any consulate on earth.

You, on the other hand got laid off and instead of seeking work right away went on a 3 month visit to the honey, therefore jeapordizing your abiltiy to sponsor her to come to the USA. Now, the incoe requirement to sponsor a family of two is shockingly low. Less than $10 per hour for a full time job. Proabably less than you receive for unemployemnt (you noticed that also, right?) So you can get a job as a cashier at Target or a stockboy at Lowe's and make the grade, which may be easier than finding a co-sponsor.

Bottom line, you need a co-sponsor Manilla will accept (family member to be considered for K1 visa as I understand) or get a job. No money, no honey.

This is absolutely, unequivocally incorrect.

There are no hard and fast guidelines from DOS on determining whether the public charge requirements have been met for a K-1 applicant. Therefore, consular officers have wide latitude in deciding what to accept.

From what I've read of Manila, they rarely accept co-sponsors. Even more rarely do they accept co-sponsors from outside the petitioner's immediate family.

In contrast, the guidelines and requirements for the I-864 Affidavit of Support used in the IR-1/CR-1 spousal visa process are much more explicit—and do allow co-sponsors. For this reason, many people who go through embassies like Manila, Bangkok, and others that rarely accept K-1 co-sponsors elect to marry and file for the spousal visa instead.

Improved USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

Form field input font changed to allow entry of dates in the specified format and to provide more space for addresses and employment history. This is the 6/12/09 version of the form; the current version is 8/8/11, but previous versions are accepted per the USCIS forms page.

Ok, my situation is a little different. I just returned from visiting my g/f for the 1st time which I met on the internet in January. She lives in the Philippines. We want to get married but I am on unemployment since July. I am only planning on living in my state until I can sell my house then want to move to another state or maybe out of the US eventually. I really prefer not to work unless I find a very good paying job here. My last job paid me $73,000 ytd as of July. I receive $770 per month non taxed VA income. The market value of my stocks now are only about $38,000. My question is, do I have to show W-2's for my income this year or can I use tax statements for the past 3 years to satisfy the consulate? What will I show as far as current job on the G-325 & also on the I-134. Also, my visa probably will not go through until 2010. My g/f is a nurse & wants to work here asap. She has no problem with me staying home for awhile until we decide where we will live. I don't mind working but don't want to accept a low paying job. Can we pass the k-1 process using my 2007-2009 tax statements & what do I list as current jobs?
