I did not read all the thread and i am not sure that you had the answer but in K1/K3 instruction document it is written that ''The beneficiary’s passport must be valid for travel to the United States and must have at least eight months validity beyond the issuance date of the visa." I think that would be helpful. you should decide according to your interview date

Questions about passport validity..

I know that when someone comes into the country, their passport needs to be valid for at least six months after the date they intend to leave.. I read, in some thread on here, that the Fiance's passport should have at least 8 months validity at the time we go for the interview.. but can't find that thread now.

1st question.. should a K1 have 6 months or 8 months validity left on their passport at the time they go to the interview?

2nd question.. should it be valid for that length of time when they send the passport copy with packet # 3?

Fuat has 6 months left on his passport right now, and we are getting everything ready for packet # 3.. by the time we send it, he will probably only have 5 months left. We haven't received packet # 3 yet, so I am estimating when we would get it and be able to send the info.

It's very expensive to renew the passport in Turkey, so he is hoping that he can wait a few months and do it before the interview.. but should he extend it before we send in the copy with packet # 3?

Is the expiration date going to play that important of a role when it comes to sending the packet?

My advice, do not split hairs. Alla had two years left on her passpor and she just renewed it anyway before we filed the petition. The new 10 year passport takes her well beyond the time when she can become a US citizen. I would day, just get a new one.

Is there anything on the forms that you need to return with Packet 3 that lists his passport number, and does the passport number change when they renew/ extend it?

If yes and yes, then renew it before responding.

If no and yes or no and no, then renew it closer to interview if you're absolutely certain it will be turned around that quickly.

Get as long as you can afford and maybe do a little searching into renewing a Turkish passport from in the US to see if it's complicated to help you decide how long you really need it for. Having said that, considering you get 1 year 'half price' if you get 3 years, I'd do that because it'll take you right through to after he gets conditions lifted on his GC.
