I still believe that a large part of it is upbringing. The home life that these troublemakers have does nothing to put them on the right path. Yes, I know that wealthy, two parent, good family kids commit crimes too. But take a look at the perpetrators in the majority of crimes we see today.

Have you seen the TV shows kids watch? The shows I watched, like Cosby, growing pains, family ties etc all had a lesson to be learned. Not to mention the adult was the head honcho. The shows I see kids watching nowadays make the adult like some powerless buffoon, that is there to cater for the kids every demands. Where the kids is the center of the show and the parents is the butler in the background. It's not just the shows, I see it in real life and when out in public. Where a 5 year old gets to decide this and that, what they like or dislike. Whereas, even now, when my old man speaks, I listen.

When I was 16 and was allowed to hang out with my friends and I roamed the streets like some hooligan, my folks made it clear from the get-go. If a cop ever brings you home or you call up from a police station, don't even bother coming home.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I hung around with a lot of those kids and did a lot of what they did, however, I always knew where to draw the line and right from wrong. This is something my folks instilled in me.

Hence the reason for the problems we have today, IMHO. Some of today's youth has no idea about right and wrong because all they see is worng at home, so they think it's ok. Even if you watched violent tv shows, movies, video games etc, you would still have known right from wrong. Your parents instilled in you to know right from wrong, starting at a very early age, as did mine.

And I'm not hating on today's youth either. I see and encounter many young people who have good values and give me hope for our future. The majority are good. The problem is the bad ones are worse and more violent than ever.

I would rather stayed in jail than face the consequences when I got home. There are tv shows that younger kids shouldn't be watching, just as a 10 year old shouldn't be watching porn. It gives them an improper outlook on things when they still haven't developed the skills to know what is real and what isn't. But again, I think the parents can teach the kids about this even if they allow the appropriate age kids watch certain movies, video games, etc.

Gotta run guys. I'll be back later to see what opinions are being traded.

Seriously?

Perhaps there is a hint of sarcasm intended?

Spot on there.

If I went home and said I had witnessed the 15 year old being bashed and rapped for two hours, my dad would dragged me to the police station and told them to arrest. Not to mention, I would have found my belongings on the street. If I was stupid enough to have participated. I better get to jail as fast as I can. The victim's family would not need to worry about justice as my old man would have killed me for disgracing the family like that.

It might be more accurate to suggest that if you've been subjected to an abusive upbringing that being exposed to violent/sexually explicit media might reinforce attitudes that were already instilled and that might encourage you to seek out similar material.

Again - there are no hard and fast answers to this. People are not machines and often do not behave in a predictable manner.
