Not an issue, as this is not a crime....Only a traffic citation. No big deal.

All the best, William.

Remnants of Homeland Security, doubled the size of our police department, not only in my town, but in every town, have nothing better to do than to issue traffic violations. When people started getting wise, made not wearing a safety belt a primary offense, where before needed other reasons to stop you first, than made an ordinance against using cell phones for more reasons to stop you. Streets that did have a 35 mph speed limit have been dropped down to 20 mph using the excuse either a nursing home or a day care center is nearby. One county road outside of town that really tees me off that was 55 is now 35 for over a mile because a broken down bar and one house is built on that road, never see a soul at those places. Yield signs are being replaced by stop signs, so if you don't come to a complete stop, can get a ticket for a slow roll, and where right turns were permitted at traffic lights after a stop, have posting tiny hard to see signs, no right turn after stop.

It's a game, takes twice as long to get anywhere and you use twice as much gas we are suppose to be conserving, but all in the mind of Homeland Security. Bet if any of our big fat cops even saw a terrorist, would run and hide themselves in a hole someplace. This country is going to hell.

We could also talk about going to a concert, sporting event, or the airlines where you have to wait in long lines or even going to a USCIS field office. Here the WMD is a camera, computer, or a cell phone.

Thanks William. The citation states the date I have to go to court, Dec 12. Still not sure if I'm eligible to take my oath on Thu , I read some cases in which the applicants had their oath postponed till they solved the matter.

Ticket has nothing to do with your oath. You dont even have to go to court if you dont want to contest the violation. You can just pay the fine if you want. I think speeding is only an infraction which does not require court appearance. Did you get the traffic fine in the mail already? I paid my speeding ticket yesterday, I got a ticket on my way home right after my AOS interview.

Your oath letter has a series of questions on the back. Things like, since your interview, have you travelled outside the USA, etc. There's one there covering citations. A speeding ticket is nothing to worry about, but the officials get upset if YOU decide it's nothing to worry about instead of letting THEM decide it's nothing to worry about. Failure to disclose can be a serious offense which can jeopardize your naturalization at a later date. So the safe thing to do is to disclose it on the oath letter, which you'll bring to the oath ceremony.

Hi Tokinho,

In answer to your questions:

1) In terms of your speeding tickets, this is what the USCIS officially says about the following about arrests, citations, etc.:

7. If you have ever been arrested or detained by any law enforcement officer for any reason and

no charges were filed, bring:

An official, certified statement from the arresting agency or applicable court indicating that no

charges were filed.

8. If you have ever been arrested ir detained by any law enforcement officer for any reason and

charges were filed, bring:

An original or certified copy of the record(s) arrest and the complete court disposition (dismissal

order, conviction record, or aquittal order).

9. If you have been convicted or place in an alternative sentencing program or rehabilitative

program, bring:

A. The sentencing record of each incident and,

B. Evidence that you completed your sentence, such as probation record, parole record, or

evidencethat you completed an alternative program or rehabilatative program. Copies must

certified copies from the issuing agency.

10. If you have ever had any arrest or conviction vacated, set aside, sealed, expunged, or otherwise

removed from your records, bring:

An original or certified copy of the court order vacating, setting aside, sealing, expunging, or

otherwise removing the arrest or conviction.

"Note: Unless a traffic incident was alcohol or drug related or serious personal injury to another

person occurred, you do not need to submit documentation for traffic fines and incidents that did

not involve an actual arrest if the only penalty was a fine of less than $500 and//or points on

your driver license."

The bottom line: Disclose when need to. Tell the truth when asked about such. Don't lie. And you should be ok there... :)

Hope this helps too. Good luck on the rest of your immigration journey.

hello,

one of my friends got the ticket a day before the oath ceremony date, it was not a problem, he simply declared it to the officials at the oath ceremony. They told him to send them a copy of the payment receipt once it is paid, he was allowed to participate in the ceremony without any issues.

goodluck....

Agree with Lucyrich. You'll be fine - just tell them about it when you are at your ceremony. Don't worry - they will ask you :) . You'll be fine. Congratulations.

Thank you for all the replies. It's hard to believe that I'm so close to becoming an American citzen. I'm looking forward to the ceremony, there will be 3.500 applicants taking the Oath. It will start at 1:00 and I'm supposed to be there at 12:30. As I have to go on a business trip right after the ceremony, my wife some friends and I will celebrate before the ceremony by having lunch at a restaurant close to place where the Oath takes place. I'll keep you guys posted, and thanks again for the support, replies and best wishes.

Good Morning:

I have the same experience. Do you believe they can move or cancel my oath ceremony?

I have my ceremony on october 23 and my court date for a speed limit ticket (78 out of 65) on the 28 october. I am afraid they move or cancel my oath ceremony. What should i do? I know the quick answer is to pay it but i would like to do the course and do not have the ticket in my record. So i will have to wait for court which means to have the citation open. Please advice, I am worry.

Did anyone have the experience on the oath date? How did that go?
