Receiving Visa from Montreal

Im looking at the timeline for people doing K1 and receiving visas in Montreal and saw some that received their K1's a day after their interview.

Is that even possible? Or are you allowed to pick up your visa physically the next day?

My room mate said that her immigration lawyer told her to stay one day after the interview to pick up her temporary TN -- has anyone heard of the same deal with K1?

Thanks :D

I was told at my interview that you cannot pick up k-1 at the interview or the day after, that they have to be mailed out. They can approve you at the interview but they have to send the papers up to be officially approved then request the visa to be made.

Maybe it changed since august.

No, that sounds about right actually.

Im just baffled at the timelines that show they received their visas the day after their interviews.

Will I get that lucky? Huh? Huh? *sniff*

It used to be that you could pick up your visa the next day or two days after at the consulate but the last time I heard about it was two years ago.

She hasnt interviewed yet, thats why its taking long  Just kidding!

I do see a big discrepancy in the length of visa arrival -- some 1 bus. days, some 3 bus. days and some literally 2 weeks.

I booked a flight for the 23rd but I might have to move the date :(

There was a couple of people, think they were CR-1 visas? That got their visa the next day when they told the Consulate in Montreal that they had a flight booked the next day. This was in the last year. I think it's probably something that doesn't occur often, and is when they're perhaps not too busy, and you get a CO that is in a particularly good mood! Now, the two VJ'ers that did get this done were not K-1's I want to point out...

Like carla stated they have been a few (very few, lol) that were able to get the visa the next day. It is something you can NOT count on. TN visa is different than the relationship visas.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
