Hi everyone,

I have a question for you, me and my SO does not use email, we talk at least once a day (and we have phone record for it) and we primarily use MSN's video feature (I guess I can provide the chat log but there isn't much there). Would this be a problem to prove we have a real relationship?

Other than this, I think we are pretty good, I mean, both of us are native born Chinese (I am a neutralized USC), I have a 6-figure fed gov job, and we are similar in age, but this email record really bothers me, I mean, why write email while we can see each other at least 2 hours a day live and then talk for another hour? Please share you experience if you don't have a email record but get the visa regardless.

Thanks!

neutralized? sorry... been a long day!

It's the same for us, we don't really email usually. We actually have been making an effort lately to write each other emails so we have a few to show (I dont think you need to bring 200 of them at the interview). I am also keeping emails exchanged between me and his mom or his brother.

I also send him cards oce in a while and he knows to keep them with the enveloppe...

We all needed a chuckle... This immigration process really stinks. I work at the place where laws are made, but I myself still have to go through this, a taste of my (our) own medicine maybe? Oh well, ya we needed this chuckle.

A trail of cards for no apparent reason could be seen as empty evidence.

Lots of folks use video chat instead of written email. Sending some snail mail is good. You have the chat history. You have phone history. Send a few emails as well. You want to show a real, natural relationship. Not one constructed for immigration purposes.

Also, if your job requires some sort of clearance, that may cause a bit of delay as your background is checked as well.

Best of luck.

At the interview, you need to provide evidence of an ongoing relationship. If you have to purposefully generate that evidence, then you need to do that. Check out the regional forums about your consulate and what others have provided. You need to map out a game plan and execute that. If that means not always talking on the phone, then you do that.

You do want to do whatever you can so you two can be together, right?
