This must be why midwives are becoming more popular again.

Is that true? Last I heard the AMA was squeezing midwives and birthing clinics out of business because of all the money they were losing not having women deliver in hospitals.

Later, she received a letter from Golden Rule telling her the company would consider covering her if "some form of sterilization has occurred since the caesarean-section delivery."

Ah yes, what a value add to our health care system these insurance companies are. Awesome.

The real issue is how to deal broadly with providing access to health care for everyone while still keeping health insurance from being cost-prohibitive.

Actually, the real issue is that we haven't gotten rid of you pimps yet.

It just isn't right, is it.

so where's the outrage about women getting cheaper car insurance rates?

And what's the deal with insurance on red cars being more expensive? I never got that either.

Visualization of Red -> increases testosterone synthesis in all mammals. True.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

No, it isn't. The overt penalizing of women of child bearing age should raise quite some outrage in this pro-life country of ours, shouldn't it?

 yes, but the 'public option' should cover abortion.

& people that smoke or are obese should pay more, because 'they are more likely to cost the insurance company more in benefits'

Ah yes, of course. But don't ask about consumption of alcohol and don't ask about risky sexual behavior.

Pick your category of people to ostracize and lay the blame on because of stereotypes or political correctness! That'll show 'em!

Could be...

That, and midwives actually spend time with you and talk to you about things, and don't scare you and pump you full of drugs for each minor inconsistency.

Well, to be fair, sometimes women ASK for those drugs during birth.

Yes and quite loudly, I might add.

Sorry, i meant pre-labor & delivery... like all the crazy stuff that happens to your body the 8+ months BEFORE the actual fun begins...

Nothin' wrong with drugs in the birthing room, that's different story entirely!

Also, you can go to a midwife for just regular maintenance, not just baby-related stuff...

"Overt penalizing" man, you are out-there~!

Next time you order a pizza with all the toppings... see if they penalize you and make you pay more for that too.

It's a cruel world my friend, go in business with your mind-set and see how long you last.

Charging women significantly more than men for health insurance premiums is discriminatory. Hard to argue how it doesn't penalize them.

even more difficult to argue that a mans premiums should mirror a womans to cover possible pregnancy, when the man can not get pregnant

When my car insurance isn't affected by some douchebag male drivers I'll care more about women paying more for health insurance because women tend to go to the doctor more.

That further illustrates the problem - the health insurance system encourages selfish attitudes. Furthermore, it encourages the "haves" to make value judgements of the "have nots" - so that if you haven't got insurance for any reason - not only is it your fault, but you deserve it too.
