My white Amreekan boy is turning into a full-time desi. He loves Bollywood -- especially SRK, Amitabh, Saif Ali Khan, and Amir Khan. And can eat his tandoori chicken and chicken butter masala with his fingers. Has learnt a few choice Hindi insults. He even understands the basics of cricket and says he is a fan of Sachin Tendulkar. :) My kind of man.

Ooo, my school canteen used to make the best chola-batura in town.

I have to say -- I too, am completely fascinated by Egypt.

Hubby and I practically ONLY eat Indian food, mostly cooked at home (eaten with the hands, of course!). I'm going to my mom's for XMas and on her list of things for me to do, she includes me cooking Indian meals for the family every day. That along with all the sweets my sister will make, and I am guaranteed to put on several pounds!

Who isn't fascinated with Egypt? I remember getting a King Tut book for a birthday when I was little, showing all the golden items in his tomb. I was SO enthralled!

My dad visited Egypt in 1961, before he got married to my mom.

Tarun and I are right there with you guys! We eat mostly indian food and always with our hands! I have become a great Indian cook...thanks in part o my mother-in-law...who would not let me leave India with her only son until I had all of his favorite dishes down to a tee!!!

Now...as for the Hindi language thing...I am on the verge of buying Rosetta Stone, which is so absolutely ridiculous since I have a Hindi speaking husband!!! For some reason though it's hard for him to teach me...or maybe hard for me to learn from him. It's my one New Year's resolution...to learn Hindi before we go back to India next year. I know a fair bit from being there for so long, but not conversational...that's my goal for this year!

I incorporate both Indian and American cooking. My white husband loves his meat and potato, one should see his face if I give him just vegetarian food for one day, he will have his puppy eyes ready asking-- what no meat?

He loves Indian food but he won't be able to eat it every day. These days I am trying to cook a lot of Mediterranean food. I do hate that I make 2 sets of meal everyday. Joe and me just don't eat the same thing, I don't enjoy red meat except lamb, and he hates lamb and loves other red meat; he won't eat fish, I love fish. He isn't a big fan of rotis or parathas. He loves masala dosa though, and I incorporate Indian veggies in his meals. He is a big fan of sweets; kalakand, soan papdi(store bought), kheer........those are usually gone within hours of making.

About Hindi, he loves all the Lata Mangeshkar songs and he knows a couple of words here and there. It's funny now he knows a lot of Sanskrit mantras/shlokas by heart but won't learn Hindi. I think I should push him more into learning Hindi :P

Hey Moksha, answered your question about money transferring.

Thanks Trinket! We have been having such a hard time trying to figure out which International bank/type of account will work for us. There's so many options out there and they don't make a whole lot of sense to us. Right now it's not a huge issue, but I would eventually like to be able to send them money or if she wants to send some be able to have her do that too...especially since the mail in India is not the most reliable!!!

I had a good day. After a long time. Nothing great happened (no NOA2 yet), but I had fun with my cousins.

Had a busy but good day so far. A friend came by and gave me a batch of Christmas cookies. Tomorrow is Joe's birthday, he kept repeating that he doesn't want anything for his birthday, but well me being the good wife and all :P I went ahead and got an ipod for him, he might freak out, but I don't care :P.

Also got some nice wine, hope to have a wonderful day tomorrow.

Let's see... Busy day at work today... Talked to my wife on lunch.. and managed to even complete my I864... Now, just waiting for the job letter, did put in for a request to HR and manager.

Other than that.. still at work, it's snowing so thinking about leaving now to make my normally 1 hour drive not turn into a 2.5 - 3 hr. drive.

I think A.R Rehman composed it along with all the other songs of the movie. Latika means a plant or a vine to be specific.
