Nah...She's big and I'd never be able to drag her and...wouldn't that be grounds for a ban???

lol lol. The OP was just joking. Of course that can not only ban a person but also put that person in jail for many many years.

Your MIL must have a dark past of her own, something she's embarrassed of and doesn't want you to find out. Do more research about her life and then set her straight. If you stand up to her and don't let her bully you, she'll take note. The reason why she bullies your husband is because he allows her to, like you said, because of many years of psychological "practice" upon him. Don't worry about a thing, immigration wise! She can't hurt you no matter what letters she writes. You make sure you have the proofs that you live in the same house, share bills, etc. and you'll be just fine. Bring your MIL a piece of paper and a pen next time, an envelope made out to USCIS and invite her to write. Show her you're not scared of her and laugh at what she's doing. Sure all this is very disrespectful, but sometimes you have to gain your respect through some unconventional ways, meaning fighting fire with fire and giving your MIL a piece of her own medicine. Make her look like a fool by laughing, seriously laughing in her face because a mental abuser only abuses because their goal is to cause pain, anger, upset, negative emotions. That's what they feed on and it sounds screwed up but mentally deranged people get a kick from hurting other people....almost like a power-trip, a high of some sort. So, that's why I am saying that you should do the opposite of what she expects your reaction to be. Don't get mad, don't tell your husband how to act in front of her or what to say to her-HE WON"T..therefore, YOU do it and then check out the results! Your hubby will take note of your reaction and hers and if he's a smart guy, he will follow you. The strong always win and laughter always gives the best results. People ALWAYS look up to the strong ones not the weak ones, whether those people are evil or good. So, be strong and laugh in her face, embrace the "i don't care" attitude no matter what she says or does. She does NOT have the power over your immigrant journey or visa approval. Good luck

wow - I wondered wot happened to the OP ?

She's not posted since this thread.

OUCH ! Lets hope the MIL wasn't successful with talking to USCIS about this 'unconventional courtship'.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
