This is good news  . Now I want to see the gov't force the navy to let women in submarines.

The Navy has allowed couples aboard submarines for years. Two men enter, one couple leaves!

The lack of sensationalist coverage of this in the media is telling.

The fact that this thread only got to 10 posts (including a 'bump' from Bill) is also telling.

15 years ago during the Clinton administration, this was a sensational issue and would have been round the clock on cable news.

Our culture changes. Attitudes change. Sometimes, surprisingly quickly.

Don't be surprised to see things like gay marriage adopted throughout all 50 states in a decade or so from now, with as little commentary as open military integration of gays is about to do now.

That the military can make the adjustment says more for the military, than it does for the population at large. While Obama may be willing to sign the legislation to permit gays to serve openly in the military, it still takes Congress to produce that legislation. This issue will sit on the back burner for a while, perhaps brought up as lame duck legislation, after the first Tuesday in November next year.

Aircraft carriers as well, 10,000 men go to sea, and 5,000 couples come back.
