Why do I love the word Phyto sanitary so much???? WHy?

I have struck myself as odd at this moment...

:D

Why do you suppose that is, could it have something to do with associating on the internet with people who are clearly disturbed.

IR5FORMUMSIE, you're incredible!

Hehhee, I had to discover all that for myself when I moved here over 5 years ago. I brought 6 house plants with me (including one that had been started by my grandmother) and had to get the phytosanitary certificate for them. I made arrangements with the local CFIA representative to come to my office and I brought my plants into work that day. He checked them over, deemed them healthy and disease/vermin free and gave me the certificate. He says houseplants are usually never a problem, so yes, if you want to bring houseplants, just get the phytosanitary certificate for them (all plants listed on one certificate) and you'll be fine. Of course, the border authorities never even checked the certificate.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Why thank you. I'm just curious, that plant that your grandmother started, is it by any chance a hoya?

No - it is an aspidistra - one of the low type, not the high type. It has had lots of 'baby' aspidistras so if anyone in the area would like one, I can help you out :) - they are very easy to take care of. I had a hoya once when I had the perfect light conditions for it. It didn't survive the move to an apartment with lower light levels even when it was right in the window. ( I keep thinking of the Flanders and Swan comedic song "The biggest aspidistra in the world!") http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/b/...ntheworld.shtml

I'm not in your area or I'd pick one up. It's not like you've done anything crazy like trying to grow cotton in Toronto, wait a minute I tried that. :bonk:

Oh my god!

You actually HAVE an aspidistra!!!

You have no idea how long I looked for one out here a few years ago...but to no avail. Most of the garden shops I went to hadn't even heard of aspidistras.

There's a great novel by George Orwell entitled Keep The Aspidistra Flying, and I just had to get one after I read that a few years ago. Perhaps I'll have better luck when I'm Stateside.

I have a black thumb, but I mourn every plant that dies under my care.
