Just curious. I saw some posts from members here stating no one has touched or updated their cases 4-5 months after they receive their NOA1's. No RFE's nothing.

That must be really stressful. Id rather have RFE's than nothing. At least you know your case is making progress.

Saddly depending on the country most cases are taking a lot longer due to extended processing and background checks that have to be done.

It has a lot to do with timing. Maybe you filed during an off-week and it got approved quickly. Or maybe your file fell to the floor and got kicked under the desk and is recovered after four months when somebody comes in to sweep. Mostly has to do with luck. Or maybe they are sleeping on the job. Hard to tell.

I agree... A LOT is due to timing... If you file in April/May like I did, USCIS pulls most agents off of processing family petitions to process work visas... They get backlogged and it take a few months to dig themselves out... If you file in August and September, it seems they process much faster, but they get hung up at NVC because they get backlogged (IR1/CR files)... Then the January and February files process really quickly... But it also depends on if you get hit with name check or background checks...

That is like one of my biggest fear. I work in a similar setting where people sends proof of their identity (SSN cards, D's passports etc) but oftentimes we have people in our department who does'nt do their jobs very well which impedes proper processing.

Another time Ive heard of instances where employyes simply is not on top of things because A. they're going through a difficult situation in life as well or b. they dont value their job.

It's USCIS and "not touched" really means no forward progress. I think it's just becuase USCIS isn't on top of things. I sent my I130 to the correct service center and nothing happened for 4 months. Then, they sent it to another center and everything moved very quickly. So I assume my case wasn't really "touched" in those 4 months as nothing happened. Fortunately, unlike the NVC, there is an Ombudsman, but that doesn't always help. It's a lot of luck...luck w/ USCIS and luck w/ NVC. We did all of our paperwork correct the first time, never had any trouble with the actual paper work or fees, but spent 4 months waiting at the begining and are now more than 7 months waiting for an interview. It's a pretty sucky and unorganized system.

07/15/08- Married in Accra, Ghana

08/14/08- I130 SENT!!!

08/19/08- Recieved

08/25/08- NOA1

~~

NOTHING HAPPENED FOR 4 MONTHS!!!!

~~

12/27/08- Notice of case transfer to California

01/26/09- Found out all at once that USCIS approved our petition AND sent it to the NVC, got NVC case number as well.

04/03/09- CASE COMPLETE!!!!!!!

Waiting......waiting......waiting!! :(

10/30/09- INTERVIEW NOTIFICATION!!!!!

12/10/09- Interview in ACCRA!

Co-sponsor needed-NVC approved my sponsorship, USEM required more. :( So sad.

12/30/09- Return interview-APPROVED!!!!!!!!!

01/15/10- VISA IN HAND!!!!!

01/17/10- REUNITED in the USA!!!!!

SO happy to have my hubby here! Sorry I didn't update, once he came, I spent very little time online. The journey is SO SO HARD, but SOOOOO WORTH IT!!!!!

Stupid question, but how do you know when it's been "touched"?

Once you receive your NOA1, you can register your case # @ uscis.gov. Evertime your last updated date changes, it means an adjucator has reviewed your file hence it was "touched"

Please don't post false information. A "touch" DOES NOT!!!!!!!! mean that an adjucator has review your file. It simply means SOMEONE has touched it, be it to be moved to a file room, to be moved to another desk, etc.
