WASHINGTON - Drugmaker Merck said Friday that U.S. regulators cleared its vaccine Gardasil to prevent genital warts in boys, a new use for a product already approved to prevent cervical cancer in women.

The Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based company said the Food and Drug Administration approved Gardasil for use in boys ages 9 through 26.

Not until it is recommended by the CDA, once that happens, yes under the law introduced in 1992 it would make it necessary for men as well.

On Wednesday, the CDC voted to not add Gardasil to the recommendations list for men and boys, with the reasoning that insurance companies (who are supposed to opt to cover recommended vaccines) could put their resources to better use than funding for the vaccine in the male gender.

They are hoping that more companies choose to cover the vaccine (their belief as to why more women haven't gone out to get it), so they don't wish to overload those companies with both genders being on that list when many don't cover it for women as is.

Oh I'm in full agreement... I was simply passing along what has been stated.

I'd much rather put $170 bucks/shot to better use, to say nothing of how I actually feel about the vaccine itself.

Theres a study that says it helps protect women from getting Herpies from men and it helps protect men from head and neck cancers, im surprised they arent making it more manditory since it helps men prevent cancer like it helps women prevent cancer.
