Name in Permanent Residency Card

Instead of using my maiden name as my new middle name, the USCIS interviewer said I should retain the old middle name I used (which was my mother's last name).. Is this true for everybody who got their AOS/permanent residency approved? It's custom in the Philippines to drop your mother's name and replace ur middle name with ur father's last name then adopt ur hubby's.. But she said, in US it's not.. I really had no choice coz the USCIS interviewer is the official right? ANyway, I can change all my name to whatever I want when I get citizenship.. But that's not til 5 years! so weird!

The thing is the previous names I used for other documents before I got approved (like bank, WIC, insurance, etc.) was the middle name using my father's last name.. Should I change them all again? How about my signature?? Now I will have 3 signatures --- my old maiden name signature (mom & dad's last name used), the one where I use as mddle name my father's last name, and now the one using as middle name my mom's last name! so confusing! :bonk: I hesitate everytime I am asked of my name now trying to recall which one I gave them the last time!

I changed my first for some reasons. I remember in the AOS forms we filled out something like "The name you want to appear in your green card".

Tsk. I should have argued this with the interviewer.. But she was so stern about following the US policy on name.. Got my GC now with the name she said I should use (using my mom's last name as middle name).. I guess the affidavit would be a good idea.. But Phil Embassy is so far from Phoenix... I wonder if u can do long--distance transactions with them...

I think they do outreachs from time to time. Contact the Los Angeles Embassy for more information.

They going to be in Tucson November 7th: http://www.philippineconsulatela.org/PRs%2...mber%202009.pdf

Joy,

Are you in Phoenix?

What name did you put in your AOS application. Did you follow the Philippines rule or the US rule?

Are you saying that the interviewer changed your name to US rule?

Strange... I'm also from Phoenix. The interviewer told me that i would have the US rule once my GC arrived. But when i got my GC, it still follows the name i put in my AOS application forms. My married name still follows the Philippines rule.

My experience in the SS office, even though they would put it my married name following the US rule. I just told them that my name follows the Philippines rule and that is the name i want. They are nice enough to put the name i want in my SS card.

I have several filipina friends here in Phoenix who followed the Philippines rule in their married name. They all had no problem.

As i mentioned earlier, you have another chance of changing your name for free after you get your US citizenship.

when my GC arrived it followed the US naming system. i have 2 first names so my card says (first name, 2nd name initial, hubby's last name) but on the bottom part with all the codes for the machine, it says it right (first name, 2nd name, dad's last name, hubby's last name) ... ???:huh::blink:

i didn't have a prob with my SSN card tho. it was the same with all of my applications (first name, 2nd name, dad's last name, hubby's last name)
